Building blocks of life discovered outside the Milky Way for the first time 🦠 Astrophysicists from Kiel University and an international research team have detected complex organic molecules in the Large Magellanic Cloud for the first time. Using the James Webb Telescope, they identified five carbon-based compounds in the ices surrounding the forming protostar ST6: methanol, ethanol, methyl formate, acetaldehyde, and acetic acid. This marks the first time acetic acid has been detected in cosmic ice, and the first time three of the other substances have been found outside our galaxy. Scientists also detected possible traces of glycolaldehyde—a molecule linked to the formation of sugars and RNA precursors. The Large Magellanic Cloud, which contains one-third the amount of heavy elements found in the Milky Way, reflects conditions in the early Universe; this suggests that life could have emerged in the Universe much earlier than it did on Earth. 🔭

Australia is using 3D printed ceramic blocks to help restore damaged coral reefs and support marine life threatened by climate change. The Australian nonprofit organization Reef Design Labs has made significant progress in marine conservation by installing the Maldives first 3D printed artificial reef. Under the leadership of entrepreneur Alex Goad the team employs the Modular Artificial Reef Structure system known as MARS. This system consists of hollow ceramic blocks that divers can assemble quickly by hand underwater. The blocks are engineered to replicate the intricate shapes of natural reefs providing a stable foundation for attaching coral fragments and creating shelter for fish and other sea creatures. Although this technology cannot fully reverse ocean acidification or large scale coral bleaching it offers a practical and scalable method for targeted reef restoration. Each installation also functions as an underwater research laboratory enabling scientists to study heat resistant coral species and improve transplantation techniques. As ocean temperatures continue to rise this innovative community oriented approach provides a promising way to rebuild essential marine habitats block by block.

For the first time ever, Starship will carry and deploy 20 Starlink V3 Satellites during Flight 13 on Thursday. Previously, they’ve only deployed simulators. Compared to V2 satellites that are currently being launched on Falcon 9, V3 satellites will enable more than 20x bandwidth per launch with Starship. These satellites will also enable high-bandwidth 5G connectivity to mobile phones anywhere in the world in the near future. @SpaceX: "For the first time, Starship will carry V3 Starlink satellites to space, which aim to greatly expand the network's capacity and user speeds.
