Our seafood industry in eastern North Carolina is under real pressure, from rising costs to unfair competition from imported shrimp, including concerns about mislabeling. We met with commercial fishermen and shrimpers to discuss the need to protect our coastal economy and lower costs for families in Beaufort and across the East.

Hyde County is soaring to new heights! Its unique Pivotal eVTOL Emergency Response initiative will enable emergency responders to reach some of the most remote parts of the county more quickly. Concerns were raised about NC Highway 12, the need to protect against erosion, and the revitalization of the historic Davis School in Engelhard to expand education, workforce training, and community programs.

It's a very cold, very windy day at our Hatteras Terminal. As a reminder, all NC Ferry routes remain suspended this morning. Each route will resume service when it is safe to do so and roads are clear. Please stay warm, stay safe, and stay off the roads today!

This morning's high tide caused ocean overwash on NC12 at the north end of Ocracoke Island. However, one lane of the highway remains open and passable, and the tide is now receding. Elsewhere, NC12 remains open and passable with areas of blown sand and rainwater on the road.

We head to the Pamlico River for this week's 'Meet the Fleet' with the M/V Governor Daniel Russell. It's a River Class Ferry that is 180' long and 44' wide and carries up to 40 vehicles and 300 passengers. The Russell sports the red and black stripes of Gardner-Webb University!

#NC12 still closed on Ocracoke Island, but wind & ocean have calmed. We’re hoping to reopen the road by noon. #NC12 in Dare Co. is open. Section from Marc Basnight Bridge to Hatteras did not get more overwash at high tide. For travel conditions check DriveNC.gov

#NC12 is open again on Ocracoke, but just for a short time. The road still has standing water. Motorists should slow down and stay alert. As a safety precaution, NC 12 will close again at 6 pm as threat of ocean overwash could create dangerous driving conditions.

Gusty winds, light rain, and well below normal temps are forecast today across ENC as a surface trough makes its way across the area. Given the expected gusty winds across our waters, small craft advisories will be up for all of our waters by this afternoon. #NCwx

NC12 on Ocracoke remains open, although we did see ocean overwash in several places at high tide. The tide is coming down now, so we are planning to keep the highway open during daylight hours. HOWEVER, be aware that a nighttime closure is possible. Drive with EXTREME caution.

GREAT NEWS!!!! NC12 on the north end of Ocracoke Island will be REOPENING at 2 p.m. today! There is still water and sand on the roadway, and a short lane closure around the crews replacing sandbags, so SLOW DOWN! First ferry from Hatteras at 2pm, from Ocracoke at 3:30 p.m.
