@rosbritton The worst thing was coming home, guessing at whether or not the place coming up was a target as well. Thankfully they were controlled explosions and everything is fine, but man it has been quite the evening.

@CairanFinnerty Oh Cairan that must have been so scary. AT has just tweeted “Two controlled explosions have been undertaken at Britomart. The cordon is being lifted, with people now being allowed back into the station”

Just ran away from explosions in Britomart. Three bangs and an officer yelling at us to run. Where in the world is safer than here? And yet this happens anyway.

Great to work with @CairanFinnerty today and his project group students. Ended up helping finalize a rat trap that sends an alert, as well as helping refine a project board for presentation and for @BrightSparksNZ next week.

@bjd8747 @tcliffin @Badger294 @maurieabraham I think that the content we choose to teach is that more suited to tests. There is nothing about a test or exam which has anything about doing science or mathematics about it. No problems worth solving are in a test or exam. Real problem solving skills suffer.

Im really worried that Massey principal believes exams at Year 11 is the only way to tell kids how they are going. Cites lack of evidence for proposals but provides none for claim that it is imperative kids sit exams in Year 11 educationcentral.co.nz/the-big-ncea-r… via @EdCentralNZ

We are lucky to have a language which assumes PBL and design.

There are no "standard" learners and our drive to transactionally measure educational achievement often causes us to lose sight of the learner as a person. We sometimes forget that the very act of measuring has an impact on our learner's self-efficacy/esteem... #whiriatetangata

@IrishkiwiMike I don't think I lack a sense of confidence so much as possess a sense of anger at what I missed out on for myself. I think such an anger is valuable for me to think about how my classes feel, and how I can encourage or drive change elsewhere.

#whiriatetangata I feel like a victim of a short sighted and culturally ignorant schooling system as a previous student as much as a perpetuator of it now as a teacher. I wonder what our next generation of teacher will feel.
