@ImpossiblyPink @AngelMD1103 To answer the rest of the world question: guidelines in America are a little slower to move to ensure quality and preserve safety very rarely do we revert to something new without hard evidence. It does have its perks and detriments.

@ImpossiblyPink @AngelMD1103 Yes the literature does suggest that and guidelines are moving to accommodate that issue. Yet if there is anesthesia indicated for a mother there needs to be fasting in place to prevent ARDS which is a life threatening complication of aspiration.

Now allowing women to eat is unethical. They tell women it’s dangerous bc there is a chance they may need an emergency c section, AND the emergency c section might require general anesthesia, which is extremely rare. Meanwhile women are being denied energy they need to make it through labor. I wasn’t allowed to eat for 36 hours. I had a migraine, and then was made fun of for asking for a meal after she was born.
