This is the Good News that Christians love to proclaim: Jesus, the Son of God Incarnate, has lived, died, and risen again to reign so that if you repent and believe in him he will bring you back to God.

Reading is like executing the bytecode of someone else's thought on a VM in your mind If your interpreter mis-matches their compiler, you'll misunderstand If you don't sandbox their code, you'll be vulnerable to it But if you don't run it at all, you won't know what it does

When I "speed read" I lose some of the dynamic range of the text I lose some of the humanity of it I retain it less vividly I find myself critically engaging with it less or more shallowly For me the trade of more speed is not worth the loss of depth

It's part of what helps me hear the tone of what I'm reading, helps me "personify" the text as coming from a person and not being a simple text object

@Duderichy @PstafarianPrice Mainstream media is a death cult. The highs are higher for parents, and the lows are lower, and that survey is absolutely fake news. Your life is harder with kids, but you won’t have to wonder what you’re living for when the gut feel is obvious.

@eigenrobot Was surprised to hear him compare Mexico's diplomats favorably vs the US's, even seeming to suggest Mexico's might be better I don't know how to evaluate such a claim or what "better" means in practical terms But it sounded like he intended to pay a very high compliment

@eigenrobot On 5 i think you’re off the mark. I’d listen to Rubio over Trump to understand the doctrine more fully. And this podcast: open.spotify.com/episode/2Gj9zx…

It is precisely because capitalism works that we must defend ourselves. Success always breeds resentment.

Sometimes God stands on both sides of a thing, and it is a mere artifact of our finiteness and limitation that we perceive a contradiction in that, where from his view there is none

Probably the MOST succinct expression of the gospel is a single word: Jesus (direct translation: "He (God) Saves") Behind that, you can do it in three: God Saves Sinners I like this three-word version because it's Trinity-shaped:

So: assertions of equality, of similarity or dissimilarity, of abstract set membership, of conceptual integrity or disintegrity, are always (when done by or for the benefit of human beings) *subjective,* requiring interpretation in keeping with the proper frame to obtain.

I'm confident of this because, even if we supposed that a human could view anything from an Absolute standpoint, he would necessarily see what's visible through absolute view via his own perception and cognition, at his own point in time, through his own linguistic constructs.

Every assertion of equality or inequality, similarity or dissimilarity, implies (first order implication) a conceptual frame within which that assertion holds; the existence of which frame then implies (second order implication) a universe beyond it where the assertion may fail.
