The Crosstown Shootout is one of the most intense rivalries in college basketball because it’s fueled by pure proximity. Cincinnati and Xavier are less than four miles apart, meaning bragging rights literally decide the city. The fan bases are deeply loyal and completely divided, with no room for neutrality, so the tension builds all year long. Nearly a century of history has produced legendary moments, shocking upsets, and even infamous altercations that have cemented the game’s fiery reputation. The atmosphere inside Fifth Third Arena or Cintas Center on game day is unmatched every possession feels personal, every bucket is a statement. National media attention proves it’s more than just a local grudge match. It’s a showcase of pride, toughness, and tradition. Winning the Crosstown Shootout isn’t just about the scoreboard it’s about owning Cincinnati until the next tip-off.

Across multiple sources, these were the consensus top five current college basketball rivalries. Do these rankings hold up, or should they be changed?

Agree, he has a very unique offensive skillset. Can tell he’s very comfortable in the mid range, elite floater. Decent footwork, doesn’t strike me as a great off the dribble outside shooter. I don’t think he has the body to drive to basket and get to the free throw line consistently and finish around the rim against Big 12 competition. I’ve read/watched a fair amount on him and he seems to have average handles where I don’t think his bag would be very deep creating off the dribble. He’s a dude that has a very high basketball IQ that’s very reliable and makes the correct plays however. I think for what it would have cost to bring him to a school like BYU or Cincy, the money is better spent in the portal. He’s a hero in Logan Utah and rightfully so. As bitter as some of these Aggies are I like his game and hope he stays home

Falslev is a good player by all means. Let’s take a look at some of the guards in the Big 12 this year. Jaden Bradley AJ Dybantsa Emmanuel Sharp Brayden Burries Darryn Peterson Tamin Lipsey Christian Anderson PJ Haggerty Kingston Flemings Yes I question how he translates.

@CalhounsCats @AggieUp Funny if you think Elamin is the only player that fits the Big 12. Did you just listen to the announcers during March Madness or something?

“A record number of nearly 2,700 men’s NCAA Division I basketball players entered the transfer portal by April 2025. This surge represents roughly 35% of all D-I men's players, with over 1,000 entering within the first two days of the window opening, marking unprecedented roster movement.” -Front Office Sports

@frrper @SpryTerry @CalhounsCats Oh my God, a bench player for Utah St. not coming to a Big 12 program, whatever will become of us? Hey genius, there are over 500 players in the portal. Do you really think UC was going hard after Templin?

The Utah State burners parading that Templin is staying crack me up. He wasn’t going to start and would have been a rotational big off the bench maybe 10-12 MPG. Congrats though, huge for Logan Utah and Coach Jacobson!

Again, why overpay a potential rotational piece off the bench maybe getting 10 mpg. It makes sense if he’s staying and getting a bigger bag at the same time. I can speak for most of us and say the narrative of us wanting all your players simply isn’t true. Elamin is the only one that checks all my boxes for the Big 12. Would it have been nice to have a guy full of energy that knows Calhoun’s system/scheme to speed the process along? Absolutely. That’s the general consensus. Not sure where the negativity stims from, the landscape of college basketball isn’t the same anymore with the portal and NIL. It’s strictly business sadly.

@PitinoCorleone @CalhounsCats Also fake graphic because byu spent 9 million on just their top 3 guys. Most estimates put this years roster around 15 million AJ was 4.2 Wright was 3 Richie was nearly 2 Then they paid 12 other guys, including a former g league guy and another top 30 recruit from last year

I love Falslev’s game but genuinely am not sure Falslev would translate to the Big 12’s size and physicality. Elamin is the only one I’d be disappointed in not snagging. There’s fired up about a player who was never going to scratch north of 10-12 minutes off the bench. That’s even if we didn’t recruit over him in the portal

@AggieUp @CalhounsCats Last years UC roster was worth $12m NIL, donors have already stated they’re willing to go to $15m in 2026. If Calhoun can’t build a winning roster, it won’t be because of money shortage here.

@CalhounsCats You're gonna have Utah State fans patrolling your feed for a minute. Just to prepare you. Just until you or they are proven right. Aggies did it to Utah and Washington fans when they were wrong. The only ones we didn't get to troll was VCU.

Cincinnati has 2 National Championships, 6 Final Four appearances. Utah State has never made a Final Four. Call me when you make a Final Four
benji@frrper

@CalhounsCats Call me when you make the NCAA tournament weirdo. Until then, pipe it down. I'd be concerned about what's happened to USU coaches after they left. Again, Calhoun had never been to tournament and walked into a program that had been to 2 straight and 4 of 6. Cincy ain't that 🤣

@AggieUp @CalhounsCats As a true UC fan, I’ll be real honest, there’s like one guy on the USU roster I’m mildly interested in. And if that guy comes in and starts, I’m pissed. Not a dig at USU or the players but strolling out a bunch of USU guys against the Big XII ain’t it.

Do you actually think Cincinnati fans in general are upset about Templin choosing to stay with a 10m+ NIL pool that’s continually increasing? Again, not really a take for a piece that would have came off the bench. I’ve not seen a single Cincy burner say anything negative about your players choosing to stay. Not sure what the chirping is about beyond still being salty
