Let's be precise about what that means — and why it matters that this was said to the FBI specifically. Constitutional law professor Jonathan Turley laid it out clearly: the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee does not have declassification authority over this type of material. These documents are made available to Congress under tightly controlled rules. Schiff, Turley said, was viewed as one of the most political chairs of that committee in its history. Now here's the critical legal point. This isn't an anonymous tip to a reporter. This is a statement made directly to FBI agents. Turley noted that whoever made this statement was fully aware that lying to federal agents is not just a crime — 𝗶𝘁'𝘀 𝗮 𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱𝗹𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘂𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝗠𝘂𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿, 𝗢𝗯𝗮𝗺𝗮, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗕𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻'𝘀 𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗗𝗢𝗝. If the allegation is true, what are we looking at? Each leaked document is a separate criminal violation. Count stacking — the same method used against Trump associates during Russiagate — could put Schiff at 10 years or more. And unlike the Mar-a-Lago case, where Trump was accused of negligence, this would be something far more damning: 𝗮 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗸 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗮 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗻𝘁. This is the man who stood in front of cameras for three years telling America he had seen evidence of Trump-Russia collusion with his own eyes. Evidence that never materialized.
