@SydCrafty @celinevmachine_ Sigh… really😬… some older people can’t understand Aussies either. Some people don’t need to speak our language to be kind and caring… You and Celine should join forces and become the ideal dream team… call it clash of the giant egos… should work well.

I work in aged care. Some elderly people are very scared and don’t understand the accents of the carers, cleaners, and gardeners who come to their homes. They love me because I’m Australian. They’re getting ripped off a lot—the workers don’t stay the allotted time, are always on their phones, and sometimes don’t communicate. And don’t get me started on the taxis… they’re massively ripping off the elderly.

I wasn't planning on making videos just yet but naturally, this struck a chord. No, we don't need mass immigration to fill nursing home staff quotas. We need to pay Australian nurses a decent wage, and prioritise what's best for the residents, not the CEOs. I'm sick of this elitist attitude when it comes to aged care. It is a very difficult job when it's done correctly, and for the workers who genuinely care, they deserve a lot more respect. Cheap third-world labour is not the answer. (my apologies for the background noise, I'm getting a microphone very soon!)

@debba466 An assistant in nursing (which I was trained as) is still nursing. Therefore, still a nurse. I wholeheartedly reject the idea that Aussies find aged care too demeaning. What did we do all those years ago before we had these "skilled migrants"?

@celinevmachine_ @debba466 And just for your information… my daughter works in care… so do many others I know white and black or brown… immigrants of one year or born here. You are making a sweeping assumption here. It may be your experience, it’s not mine. There are bad apples in every barrel.

@celinevmachine_ @debba466 The people I met at my Dads respite care home… were amazing and all of them were immigrants of some kind.. I never met such a bunch of of genuine caring patient people, male female qualified RNs or not. I dare you to tell me my nurse daughter doesn’t work as hard if not harder.

@darwonboy @celinevmachine_ That goes for all people.. brown and white… humans actually… why say the word Australian… we have non white Aussies. I may be wrong in my assumption… but I wonder.

@celinevmachine_ I know two australian women in their 50s that have had to leave aged care. They both were passionate about providing care for thw elderly but they had gotten to the point where they just couldn't continue. They were over worked, under paid, and physically and mentally abused.

@SydCrafty Exactly!! And it's not because your residents are "racist" that they love you, they love you because they know you care about them. The whole industry has become a free-for-all where the only people that miss out are the people it's meant to be centred around.

The speeches have been analysed and debated for over a year, there’s nothing more to see. Although we could keep them as a souvenirs, in a few years we can go back and reminisce.
