There is something about the term ‘sick role’ that suggests it is being enacted rather than genuine. A UK critical psychologist wrote an entire thesis on ‘the sick role’ when she was describing longterm severe mental illness and I can tell you it wasn’t pretty.

@j_b_kennedy Nonmedic here. Whilst I appreciate variabilities in heart rate w/out change of posture or activity is not rated by medics it is a v common conversation amongst chronically ill pts whose awareness of their own heart rate &it's variability for "no obvious reason" has value for them

Is it odd that my Cardiologist didn’t know what ‘HRV’ was?
And when I said ‘it’s Heart Rate Variability’ he thought I meant the difference between a resting and an active HR 😮
