@NicholasOShaug1 @HookArron76532 In 1940, the British had 1st Cavalry Division in Palestine which had atleast 9 Regiments of Cavalry mounted on horses. By the Syrian campaign, 3 regiments were still on horses, the other 6 had been converted to trucks. The horse could go places trucks couldn’t &faster than inf.

The “no drinking in sight of the pitch” law for football is ridiculous. It just encourages people to binge drink before the game and scrum for multiple pints in the 15 minute half-time break.

I know. It’s a weakness 😂. I just can’t shake off a soft spot for quotidien Establishment politicians of no known achievements who are nevertheless given a well-remunerated sinecure in the Lords for the rest of their lives. It shows just how compassionate a nation we are.

@BethRigby @GordonMurdie @joshglancy Really it comes down to his judgement as a person. Not political, just human. Why select a known friend of a peodophile? Why let them into the inner sanctum of the @UKLabour- why support them after being found out? There is much more depth to this story.

Via @joshglancy: Starmer acknowledges the Mandelson appointment was a mistake that needs looking at, but he is also deeply frustrated by Westminster’s obsession with it. He views a political-media class that only wants to talk about vetting forms and not about the Strait of Hormuz as fundamentally unserious. “I understand why there are questions,” he says. “I’ve answered I don’t know how many of them. But at the same time, I’ve got a huge amount of work to do on the war on two fronts.”

On what do you base that claim? And, while you’re at it, remind me of European military help in 1982.
Marek Janouš@marekjanous

@NiohBerg Interestingly, until Brexit, any military threat to the Falklands would oblige the whole EU to help… 🤔

@afneil Starmer announced Mandelson as ambassador on 20 Dec 24, and it is expected the US agrément was prior to this. Robbins became PUS from 08 Jan, this is some time after the announcement and after Starmer had announced Mandelson.

The appointment was announced before Robbins was appointed. The formal appointment letter wasn’t sent out til Jan 30 2025, the moment the vetting issue had been ‘resolved’. Robbins was appointed January 8th.
Alpine Observer@Alpine_Hermit

@afneil Erm no, Mandelson was already appointed BEFORE Robbins was employed in that role. The King had already confirmed him. This is all on Starmer.

@newstart_2024 The UKs population was under 40m in 1917. Now it’s nearer 70m. That’s why your 2 up, 2 down costs so much more. Demand and supply.

“You’re spending 50% of your disposable income on a house a postman owned in 1917.” Rory Sutherland just delivered a brutally funny takedown of London property madness. He pointed out that people with good jobs are now paying enormous sums for a three-bedroom house in Fulham that’s essentially a boring, low-quality building — the real value is almost entirely in the land and planning permission (about 90% of the price). Meanwhile, we live in an incredible technological age where you can buy jet skis, hot tubs, and amazing consumer goods — but most of our money goes into owning a “shit house” in a good postcode. Rory’s friend has a flat in the Barbican and he gets that — it’s actually an amazing place to live. But most London housing? Dross. Rory’s friend has a flat in the Barbican and he gets that — it’s actually an amazing place to live. But most London housing? Dross. It’s like paying £60,000 a year for the parking space while driving a 1970s Ford Cortina. What’s the most ridiculous thing you’ve seen people spend huge money on just for location?

I had the honour of speaking to a group of Holocaust survivors last year and they said the atmosphere in London was like 1930s Germany. You look at the Greens’ rhetoric, and you look at the pro-Iranian regime march in London this weekend… We're there. What do we do now?

So let's get this straight. This is the deputy leader of the Green Party with his fully veiled wife, right? And the leader of the Green Party is the gay Jewish bloke who yesterday gyrated on stage with a load of men dressed in bondage gear. Which of these two loons is actually representative of the Green Party because it seems to me that, even at the top, they have absolutely no idea what they're about.
