Today, @amnesty visited 2 mass graves on the outskirts of Damascus, where it seems the Assad government dumped the bodies of detainees from various detention facilities & prisons, incl Saydnaya. Those detainees had either been executed or died from torture/conditions of detention

We @amnesty spent yesterday visiting the Assad government’s security and intelligence branches in Damascus. For years, survivors had described the horrors they experienced in these underground dungeons. But nothing could have prepared us for what we saw.

With many unthinkable horrors beginning to be uncovered from Assad’s prisons, I can’t help but think about Dr Abbas Khan - The man who made me choose to become a doctor like him. Now that the Assad regime has collapsed, I pray for those who caused Dr Khan and 150,000+ others anguish beyond description, to be held accountable. I pray for the closure that the Khans and thousands of Syrian families have long deserved. One day we will inaugurate the Abbas Khan Hospital in my home city of Aleppo. We the Syrian people are so grateful for him and for his family who campaigned tirelessly to bring Assad and his accomplices to justice.
Karim@Idlibie

In 2012 British surgeon Abbas Khan went to Aleppo, Syria to treat wounded civilians. He was consequently tortured and murdered by the Assad regime. His story touched many, including a 15 year old boy from Aleppo who wanted to be like Dr Khan. Today that boy graduated a doctor.

Months before he died of cancer, Don Anderson gave his daughter, Lola, a note. It was a diary entry Lola had thrown away as a child which said her dream was to win Olympic rowing gold. Her dad had kept it. She's got her gold medal ❤️ #BBCOlympics #Olympics #Paris2024

🚨 Many are claiming that the newly elected Leeds Green Party councillor Mothin Ali participated in the riots there tonight However, this video and other videos show that these claims are false; Ali was trying to prevent the disorder and stop bins from being pushed into fires

Watch this it’s fascinating - I asked James Timpson what he’d do about prisons and sentencing if he was in charge. He believes only a third of prisoners in jail should definitely be there. He’s now in charge of prisons (but not sentencing).

🤯 Statements of intent from Tony Bloom tonight. Wants to stop selling top players, losing big names. Wants to make Brighton an ‘established European side’.
