Betting on Norway to win the FIFA World Cup. Well, it's not because I believe they can win it all, but because I think they will easily win over Iraq in their first match, and the odds will increase from 2,5c to 3,5c (a 40% increase). Meanwhile the odds for a simple victory 1X2 over Iraq is 1,27 (27%). I also think Norway will beat Senegal, which is match number 2, so the winner odds might increase more, but I prefer to sell after the Iraq match instead of speculating more. Replying to the “What if you’re wrong” comments: Let’s clear this up: The World Cup is literally built to give favorites a speedrun to the late stages. Most teams in my top-8 bucket literally can’t face each other before the quarterfinals (especially if they top their groups, which is very likely). Weak teams always get fed to the strong ones to push the favorites forward. That’s not my opinion — that’s how the WC works. Best case: 4 teams from my bucket in the semis → I win and pocket +$7.7k. But even if some random Croatia or Morocco sneaks into the semis, I’ll just buy the same size position on them and hedge. Yes, it will eat into my profit, but I won’t risk the entire bag. (Recent example: Atletico was trading 9-11¢ in the CL semis.) Over the last 40 years, only favorites have won this thing. I think the fair value of this basket is closer to 90-95%. The long tail (dark horses) is systematically overpriced.
