I can't stop laughing at this. It's when he raises his hands at the inevitability of what's about to happen as the daft sheep launches again.

@francesca_kms It frustrates me that Google always assumes you’ll walk to the station. If you could tell it you’re cycling (or multi-mode) you could make better decisions. Also, while we’re at it, add airport transfer times, security and waiting into the flight times.

Sometimes the fastest way to get around London is bike→ train→bike. Today I needed to get from Acton to Woodford (~20 miles): 🚗 1h 6m 🚲 1h 50 🚲🚆🚲 58m Cuts journey time, flexible & <congestion. PS. 🚝 was empty if seats were needed, we’d move the bikes.

@LizJWalter @Westminster_LCC How does introducing extra crossing markers on the road teach drivers that peds have a right of way even without crossing markers?

Here at WCC we’re interested in road safety for ALL, so we were intrigued when a new (and bizarrely contentious) kind of crossing started popping up in our borough: the ‘Side Zebra’! There’s only 11 in London and they’re all in Westminster. So what are they and do they work?

@GNetworkComms any chance you're going to repair the damage you did the the public realm on Pancras Road 2 years ago? Millions of taxpayer money was spent to regenerate this area, and this is how you treat it?

Twenty million barrels of oil passed through the Strait of Hormuz yesterday. Today the number may be zero. Not because Iran mined the water. Not because a tanker was hit. Because Lloyd’s of London picked up the phone. War risk underwriters began canceling policies for strait transits hours after Operation Epic Fury launched. The Financial Times confirmed premiums surging 50 percent. Baseline war risk sits at 0.25 percent of hull value. For a hundred million dollar tanker that is 250,000 dollars per voyage. At peak escalation rates, one million per transit. Vessels linked to American or Israeli interests are becoming uninsurable entirely. No price. No policy. No passage. The KHK Empress was loaded with Omani crude heading for Basra when it executed a U-turn mid-strait and redirected to India. The Eagle Veracruz halted at the western approach carrying two million barrels of Saudi crude bound for China. The Front Shanghai stopped off Sharjah with Iraqi crude destined for Rotterdam. Nippon Yusen ordered its entire fleet to avoid Hormuz. Greece told its merchant armada to reassess passage. Hapag-Lloyd suspended all transits. None of them were fired upon. Every one of them got the same call. More than fifty million years ago the Arabian plate collided with the Eurasian plate and compressed the Persian Gulf into a basin that drains through a single geological bottleneck twenty one miles wide. Twenty one percent of global petroleum. Twenty percent of all seaborne LNG. One fifth of industrial civilization’s energy supply forced through a tectonic accident narrower than the English Channel, bordered on one side by the country whose supreme leader was killed yesterday morning. The USS Abraham Lincoln carries enough Tomahawks to sink every IRGC patrol boat in 48 hours. Operation Praying Mantis crippled Iran’s operational naval forces in eight hours in 1988. The Fifth Fleet has rehearsed this scenario for decades. None of that matters. Aircraft carriers cannot force an underwriter to rewrite a policy. Tomahawks cannot lower a premium. The most powerful navy in human history cannot make a Lloyd’s syndicate decide that a VLCC transiting Iranian coastal waters represents an acceptable risk on a Saturday afternoon when missiles are landing in Dubai. Goldman Sachs estimates Brent could peak at 110 dollars per barrel. JP Morgan projects 120 to 130. At those levels every airline bleeds cash. Every central bank watches three years of inflation fighting reignite overnight. Bypass pipelines from Saudi Arabia and the UAE handle roughly three million barrels. Hormuz handles twenty million. The math does not close. Iran figured out something the Pentagon still has not. You do not need to close a strait. You just need to make it uninsurable. open.substack.com/pub/shanakaans…

A new public fountain has appeared in central London, but look closer & you’ll see that it’s a actually a fountain of filth. The water is black, the human victims of the sewage crisis are vomitting streams of liquid, whilst surmounted by a smug water executive with a briefcase stuffed with cash. The fountain commemorates one of the biggest environmental crimes in British history, where water companies stole tens of billions of pounds that was supposed to be spent on our sewage system, gave it to shareholders and executives and illegally poured billions of lites of sewage into our rivers, lakes and seas instead. The channel 4 docudrama about the sewage crisis, #dirtybusiness, starts at 9pm tonight. Watch it, get sad, get angry and then join the thousands of people around the country demanding an end to the sewage crisis.

@ZoeFranklinLD driving is a privilege, not a right, so why don’t we have permanent bans for people like this who aren’t changing their behaviour? Can you support this?
Surrey RoadSafe@SurreyRS

🚨In June last year, this vehicle was prohibited after an #SPCasualtyReduction officer discovered multiple dangerous defects, following a short pursuit. Original post: tinyurl.com/dcpjaumt Today, the same #SPCasualtyReduction officer, stopped the vehicle in Walton-on-Thames. We're pleased to say the dangerous defects have been rectified. Unfortunately, however, the driver blew 71ug at the roadside (over twice the legal limit) and was subsequently arrested. Checks revealed that the driver had failed to notify his insurance company of his driving conviction from last year’s stop. As a result, the insurance company refused to confirm cover. The vehicle was seized under section 165a of the Road Traffic Act. In custody, the driver failed to provide a specimen and has been charged to appear in court. He now faces a lengthy ban, as this is not the first time he’s been arrested for drink driving.🛑 #Fatal5 #DriveSober

The number of murders recorded in London dropped to its lowest level per capita since records began. There were 97 homicides in the capital in 2025, down 36 per cent from 153 in 2019. 2025 saw a homicide rate of 1.1 per 100,000 people - safer than comparable global cities such as New York at 2.8, Paris (1.6), Toronto (1.6), Berlin (3.2), Los Angeles (5.6), Chicago (11.7), and Philadelphia (12.3).

Hi @Ocado - my dad is elderly/frail/has dementia and he’s just told me that your delivery guy often unpacks his shopping for him, without being asked to. I don’t know if this is normal service for you, but I think it’s brilliant. I’d love for him to be recognised for it. 🥇

If you want to improve productivity then you certainly don't want to arbitrarily kill or maim people on roads. Its a huge cost to society. 20mph/30kmh hardly impacts journey times in real world traffic and makes urban/village roads far more attractive for healthy walking and cycling.

Ambulances are a good thing aren't they? Saving lives, etc. But they are very expensive. So why waste them on the 15,000 casualties on England's 30mph roads which could be avoided if UK Gov followed Wales/ Scotland by setting 20mph as an urban/village norm.20splenty.org/gb2024stats
