@ForwardCarolina How bad is it in the state legislature? Gor gerrymandering on congressional districts, wouldn’t the state house/senate be the deciding bodies that could theoretically make new laws to change the maps?

Here's the thing: no one really expects this to happen - but mainly because the Republican gerrymander of North Carolina is so shamelessly odious. To this poster's point, you would need something close to a D+15-20 shift to break Republicans' rigging of North Carolina's election map. We are headed into an environment in November that will likely be between D+5 to D+10. A "blue wave" is the low end estimate - a blue tsunami is more likely. And even in that environment, the Republican gerrymander of North Carolina is so efficient that it will likely insulate many of their seats to be effectively immune from voter accountability at all. This is really the root of so many of our challenges.

@mitchellvii Because under the right circumstances, it can go red. We had republicans AND democrats as majorities in both state legislature chambers AND the governorship since just 2020. Plus a 6-5 congressional delegation for the majority of that time too. We aren’t “deep blue”

Why do people talk about Virginia like it's a red state that just went blue? Because of Northern Virginia and the big cities, Virginia has been deep blue for a long time. Northern Virginia is like DC Plus.

@pcrtpftw1 @OhItsRyan Presidents aren’t the gatekeepers of the Supreme Court. The Senate is, and the people elected a Republican senate to keep Obama in check, so no, Democrats weren’t entitled to that seat or any other seat for that matter.

All I know is that if he dies after democrats take control of the senate they better keep that seat open until the next presidential election idgaf if it’s 2 years away…
