Last summer, it hit me like a truck that I didn't want writing to be my career. (GASP SHOCK HORROR FAINTING SPELL.) But the lovely people teaching WRITING classes always made it fascinating for me, so I kept my writing major, even if I wasn't going to do anything with it. (IJ)

I [planned to major] in pure mathematics, but after Schmidt’s 212 (during which I did not realise he was the Gary D. Schmidt who wrote some of my favourite middle school books), I decided to add a LITERATURE major because “wow I love literature!” - AJ

Why study LITERATURE?: "because it preserves some of the greatest treasures of the world. So much history, feeling, and philosophy of the past is stored within it, that the world would be far poorer for the lack of it." - J.M.
