🚨 NEWS UPDATES 🚨
Adolescent Girls in Oyam Speak Out on Reproductive Health Rights.
Adolescent girls from across Oyam District have today taken centre stage in a powerful dialogue on sexual and reproductive health rights, calling for greater support, understanding, and empowerment from families and communities.
The engagement, held at Rainbow Hotel, brought together young girls in an open and interactive session aimed at amplifying their voices and addressing the challenges they face. The discussion was led by Sister Sidonia Akello, Assistant District Health Officer Oyam district, who guided participants through critical issues surrounding their health rights, access to services, and informed decision-making.
Unlike traditional workshops, the session created a safe space for adolescent girls to openly share experiences, concerns, and solutions. Many participants emphasized the urgent need for a shift in parental attitudes, particularly when girls face unintended pregnancies.
One participant, Scovia, stressed the importance of compassion, urging parents to support rather than stigmatize their daughters. She noted that harsh treatment often worsens the situation, pushing girls into isolation and fear.
Echoing similar concerns, Auma Beatrice called for respectful and open communication within families. She highlighted that when parents engage their daughters positively, it reduces the likelihood of unsafe decisions such as abortion, which often stem from panic and lack of guidance.
The girls also made a strong appeal to development partners and organizations to go beyond awareness campaigns and invest in practical support. They emphasized the need for life skills training, economic empowerment, and psychosocial support for adolescent mothers to enable them to care for their children and rebuild their futures.
Organized by @jane_acilofdtn in partnership with the daughter to Late Nelson Mandela, Ndileka Mandela, founder of @TMFSOUTHAFRICA, the event underscores a growing recognition that adolescent girls must not only be protected but actively involved in shaping the policies and programs that affect their lives.
As the dialogue continues, the voices from Oyam send a clear message: empowering adolescent girls with knowledge, dignity, and support is not optional. It is essential for building healthier families and stronger communities.

All Set for Nomination! 🚩
Dokolo South Member of Parliament Hon. Felix Okot Ogong (@OkotOgong) is set to be nominated tomorrow, Tuesday, October 21st, 2025, as he seeks to retain his seat, contesting as the NRM Flagbearer for Dokolo South.
The long-serving legislator, who recently threw his weight behind the NRM presidential candidate, H.E Gen. (Rtd) Yoweri @KagutaMuseveni, reaffirmed his commitment to the party and the people of Lango.
Speaking on Wimeja Extra, a popular Saturday talk show hosted by @CalvinOtimD on Voice of Lango FM, Hon. Okot rallied Ugandans to support President Museveni in the upcoming elections.
“Politics is about give and take,” he emphasized. “We want to give President Museveni our votes as Lango, wholesomely, so that we can easily present our interests to him and remind him how overwhelmingly we supported him.”
Hon. Okot will officially be nominated tomorrow at Aneralibi Primary School at 10:00 a.m. — a moment expected to draw massive support from NRM faithful across Dokolo South.

@j_mucunguzi Beautiful to go back to such places where you have a lot of memories. What a story indeed

In Jinja last week, I travelled back to Masese landing site, the place of the start of my teenage years to check on my friends, Pantaleo ( in a hat) and his brother Rafael, who saw me as a 14 year old boy playing street football at the community pitch and selling deep fried cassava & fish to raise school fees to attend Jinja Senior Secondary School.
In 1989 when I arrived at these shores of Lake Victoria, Pantaleo was already running this kiosk, selling kimbo, blue band, habari salt, baraafu, parafin, sugar, and all manner of household essentials.
It is at this, his corner shop, that I would make my first stop, carrying fish and cassava in a kataasa, a plastic tray, on the way down to the landing site to do business.
Sometimes, he would buy a piece of cassava or fish, giving me my first business blessings for the day.
Pantaleo liked me, and cheered me on, encouraging me to sell fish, but emphasizing that I should not drop out of school after getting some money.
There are words, when spoken with candor and love, stick and enable us to carry on. Pantaleo's were such words.
For over 35 years, Pantaleo has operated from here. From this kiosk, he has raised a family, took his children through university, built a home in Jinja and his village in Rukungiri, bought land and developed it, among other achievements.
From this corner, Pantaleo has witnessed Uganda's history and transformation, watched the legislators make the new Constitution in 1995, participated in elections since the one of 1996, voted in the referendum of 2005 that saw the change from the Movement system to multiparty system, and is getting ready to vote in the 2026 general elections.
Pantaleo is an example of resilience and dedication. And he and I have remained friends.
My trips to Jinja are never complete until I have come back to my roots at Masese to greet and check on my friends, like Pantaleo, Mansur, Kalema, Maama Mawanda, Kadumbuli, and many others.
