Reds Hall of Fame announces Tom Browning Scholarship recipients - Inaugural winners of scholarship established in memory of Reds Hall of Fame pitcher to be honored before the August 13th Reds game. Cameron Snider from Bethel-Tate High School (OH) and Madison Goddard from Larry A. Ryle High School (KY) have been chosen as the winners of $5,000 Tom Browning Scholarships. The winning pitchers will be celebrated in a pregame ceremony prior to the August 13th Cincinnati Reds vs. St. Louis Cardinals game at Great American Ball Park. Cameron Snider – Bethel-Tate High School (OH) The consummate student-athlete, Cameron Snider earned a 4.16 grade point average while racking up numerous awards and accolades as a dominating pitcher for the Bethel Tate Tigers. A leader on and off the field, Snider went 8-2 his senior year, posting a 0.875 ERA in 56 innings pitched, striking out 86, while leading the Tigers to League and Sectional Titles, being named All-City Player of the Year, First Team All-Conference, Southern Buckeye Athletic Academic Conference Player of the Year, and Spring Cincinnati Enquirer Sports Awards D3 Player of the Year. Away from the diamond, Snider was an active participant in the National Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society, Drug Free Club, and set numerous records at quarterback for the Tigers football team. He will attend Thomas More University. Madison Goddard – Larry A. Ryle High School (KY) An Honor Roll student, Madison Goddard graduated Magna Cum Laude from Ryle High School with a 4.65 grade point average. On the field, Goddard was the varsity team captain her senior season and finished fourth in her region in wins (12), ERA (2.29), and strikeouts (159). Her strikeout total ranked 44th in the state. A dual-threat player, Goddard ranked fourth in her region in both home runs (seven) and RBIs (32), and was chosen as Ryle’s 2024 Offensive Player of the Year. Named to the 2024 9th Region All-Tournament Team, Goddard also received a Cincinnati Enquirer All-Star Award, won First Team honors from the Northern Kentucky Softball Coaches Association, and was chosen as an Outstanding Athlete by the Ryle Athletic Club. She will attend Transylvania University. About the Tom Browning Scholarship A Red from 1984-1993, Tom Browning pitched the only perfect game in Reds history on September 16, 1988, and was a key member of the Reds’ 1990 World Championship club. Inducted into the Reds Hall of Fame in 2006, he passed away suddenly on December 19, 2022, at the age of 62. The Tom Browning Scholarship Fund was established in 2023 to perpetuate Browning’s legacy, both as a Reds Hall of Fame pitcher and as an ambassador for the Reds and the game of baseball. Beginning in 2024, Tom Browning Scholarships will be awarded annually to a high school baseball pitcher and a high school softball pitcher from the Tri-State area who excel as a pitcher and in school academically and exhibit superior leadership and community service.
