@tonytost @AmericanGwyn A great teacher! I briefly worked as a counselor for a court mandated wilderness program- at night we read the kids @orsonscottcard Enders Game. They loved it and identified w/ Ender. At a Y camp @MarcSessler and I read On the Road to the kids w/ much less success.

@CampIsBig @AmericanGwyn Our 2nd grade teacher read WHERE THE RED FERN GROWS aloud to us & I really loved that. I discovered books in community college when I was assigned Kafka's THE METAMORPHOSIS & Vonnegut's SLAUGHTERHOUSE FIVE. Before that, I didn't read for pleasure. No books in the house, etc.

@orsonscottcard @thomas_garrard Best science fiction and YA book of all time. Two decades ago, read it to a group of teens camper in a court-ordered wilderness program each night. They were riveted and absolutely loved it - as do my own children! All-timer! Thank you, Mr. Card!

Thanks for caring about a character I created when I was 24 and a book I wrote when I was 33. I'm old now, still trying to come up with truthful stories, and glad to know that you've taken Ender Wiggin to heart. @thomas_garrard *I’m also happy to see how many fellow humans have volunteered to replace Grok in a book discussion. **And speaking of being old, I first posted this incorrectly. Grok may have to replace me.
Just T.J. the Army Vet@thomas_garrard

I just had a conversation with Grok about one of my all time favorite books “Ender’s Game” I had to talk to Grok, because I’ve never met anyone who’s read it, besides me. Lol. It’s a great book, though, if you’re ever so inclined.

Four big revelatory first time watches for me so far this year. All enthusiastically recommended without hesitation: THE STORY OF A CHEAT (1936, Sacha Guitry) THE BREAKING POINT (1950, Michael Curtiz) SUMMERTIME (1955, David Lean) ADIEU PHILIPPINE (1962, Jacques Rozier)

it really seems like covid/the existence of "virtual school" has just broken the public education contract irrevocably, no one really seems to expect school to actually function well or reliably anymore

I’m taking some time off from the show - it’s been a really tough last few months and I need to step away. About as low as I can remember, but I’ll be OK. No idea when I’ll be back. As always, it’s OK to ask for help when you need it, and you’re not alone.
