It's quite strange when some supporters of Canada's provision accuse other people, including their own compatriots, of lying when they report this extension - but in my experience don't offer any real counter. It's almost as if they find it hard to defend promoting it in the UK.

My unpopular opinion is that when regular people discuss connections btwn health, housing, income, etc. they are highlighting importance of ALL these in their lives & how addressing one is not enough. When govt does it, it becomes deflection & under-funding of one or all.

Also, it's been suggested that the higher rate of substance use is caused at least in part by attempts to self-medicate, which means it's even more essential to be looking upstream and supporting people with MI before they reach that point.

About 20% of people with a mental illness have a co-occurring substance use disorder. That means that 80% do not have a substance use disorder. And yet one community MH centre has 100% of its programs focused on SUD only. TBC not suggesting less of those programs.

He doesn't understand the question. He doesn't understand the issue period. What he's saying would be $290 less income for some depending on province, clawbacks, than the person asking for $500 increase in CDB. But you all are praising him. Why?

I don’t think one can live a dignified life in Canada on $500/month. Our call is in line with disability justice activists, who are demanding $2150/month, closer to the pandemic-era CERB. But yes, @princessrott, disconnecting the CDB from the tax credit is essential.

We told them this would happen & it is entirely possible other provinces will do the same at some point. So he's just pumping out the PR. As I said from the outset of this CDB spreading false hope in a community hanging on by it's finger tips is criminal.

And to be clear this amount was intended to be on top of current provincial disability benefits. Avi Lewis has not updated his talking points to reflect the fact that as I and others predicted would happen, a provincial govt has chosen to subject CDN to clawbacks.
