Some personal news: After 27 years of part-time teaching at Rye/TMU, I'm retiring from a (mostly) terrific job. Time to take things easier, while continuing to freelance write/edit. Deep thanks to all my former students for making my life richer beyond measure. Colleagues, too

Might write a book this year. How hard can it be?

We're now 2 yrs into the decisive decade. Emissions should be in an unprecedented fall, instead we're seeing the 2nd biggest rise ever recorded. We're wasting invaluable time pretending we can solve this crisis without treating it like a crisis. World leaders are still in denial.

We have seen some progress, with support from Global Affairs. 275 are out of our original list of 450. 175 remain in Afghanistan. But the hour is urgent. Earlier today Taliban appointed an al-Qaeda commander w/ zeal for targeting journalists as governor of Kabul. We must act.

@anne_theriault There is a reason why, say, a Barrymore sofa costs much more than an Ikea or a futon; it tends to last a lifetime and is able to be recovered/rebuilt.
