@agemjourney Antibiotics given on the “just take them any way basis” despite my strong protestations I had no symptoms of a UTI which was their diagnosis. Antibiotic stewardship anyone?

@agemjourney Indeed many have similar experiences renal stones in my case. No choice to change GP Practice as all local practices taken over by same group with same standard. Appts with non doctors and out of area for next practices.

For anyone who remembers this, I tried to get a GPs appt 3x for suspected gallstones, was fobbed off each time and given incorrect advice by a 'paramedic practioner'. I switched practices, got an appointment booked in, went this morning F2F...
SleepyDoc 🍉🇵🇸💕@agemjourney

I don’t need my GP often but the last 2 times I tried to speak to a dr (same issue) I’ve been called by an ANP & now a paramedic practitioner who was rude, dismissive & got v defensive when she heard I was a doctor (& also gave objectively wrong advice)it’s unsafe & exhausting 😭

We spent thousands so Laura could access treatment abroad & we're definitely not the only ones. It always frustrated me that this information simply wasn't captured anywhere Now @ourbrainbankuk are launching a research project to do just that so pls help ➡️obbuk.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_86…

@shitscaredmum @ourbrainbankuk It’s been going on for years. In 2005 there were 5 British pts at the International Cancer centre in Paris. All self funding and facing financial hardship. We remortgaged. The expertise and PBT had been available for 20yrs in France while the U.K. was still sceptical.

I'm in my useless GPs waiting room. An old man is upset as he'd come in to make an appointment. The cow on reception is telling him he has to do it online at home. I offered to help him& gave him my number. Now they've appeared with an iPad to go through the 'war & peace' e-forms he's got to fill out. Probably starting with "are you pregnant?" HE JUST WANTS AN APPOINTMENT.

Morning. I'm a bit puzzled at why Rayner is talking about closing allotments. We have a large one in our village that I imagine has been there for decades, very well kept by locals and somewhere they enjoy going to chat and socialise as well as grow their prize marrows and enjoy the outdoors. What the feck is wrong with that? What harm is an allotment doing to our government and our country? People need their hobbies and interests, and they need to mix with other like-minded folk. Honestly, this is just cruel towards good people who are probably retired and don't have a big garden or any garden at home, and just want to do something they enjoy. Anyway, have a great day. 😒

doctors need to know the sex of their patients for multiple clinical (safety) reasons. Sex is determined at conception and recognised often in utero and described at birth. It's not assigned like a random dicethrow. We know this.

@parthaskar @RCPhysicians Patient here, Prof Kar, there are many of us who have watched your journey with disbelief. You have championed patient safety in all your roles. You are the People’s Champion. You have been treated disgracefully, we are behind you and we have no doubt you will be back.

Well- that was a blockbuster 2 years as an elected Councillor @RCPhysicians 🔴Fought for IMGs, SAS and LED doctors. (RCP now has documents to stand by) 🔴Challenged overt secrecy of Council meetings. (RCP Council changes are coming) 🔴Fought a lot of chicanery (Goodness-there was a lot) 🔴Part of small group who brought an about turn re PAs. (Yeah I know lots others claim credit now 😎) Kids- always better to do something than be part of group-think Lovely messages all around - thank you. Yet-it is always the case-rules are different if you don't fit the profile. C'est La vie. Last few weeks has shown up some genuine friends- and many without a spine. Anyway, A bit of time in Carbonite harmed no one. 🤣 I will, of course, be back. Like every single phase of my life. You may not like my style- but I live by my outcomes- and my passion to fight for whats right- whatever the consequences. Regrets? None. There is no compromise. For now- holidays beckon. Thank you again x

@autcareandshare Absolutely this! I remember with horror the insistence that Cancer Son had to attend in person. Stroke/brain tumour/deafness/ataxia. Refused to let him use toilet as staff only. Awful place/security guards/shouting etc We cried in the car on the way home. Was this his life now.

Ryan's dla is changing over to universal credit, they'd sent all the important forms to the wrong address, ive now completed all the forms,at first they insisted Ryan had to talk to them on the phone then insisted Ryan attend the jobcentre, I explained this would cause Ryan anxiety and take a lot of preparation, finally they agreed i could go to the jobcentre on my own,so today I'm off to my local jobcentre with 6 forms of ID, 3 for me as I'm Ryan's appointee and 3 for Ryan , all I keep reading is how easy it is to claim disability benefits, this is far from easy.and extremely frustrating.

Today was helping with an 18 year in an international rowing regatta. - she was getting a tight chest typical of her asthma after the race but her Ventolin inhaler had run out - long standing asthma diagnosis and exercised induced She has to row tomorrow and is away from home Parent goes to Boots and explains situation and asks to buy another inhaler - Boots pharmacist can check her GP medical history online but says she hasn’t had a GP review of her asthma for 6 months and says another inhaler can’t be issued until GP review - ffs Protocol driven healthcare is a complete waste of money and withdraws professionalism from very highly trained people - it stops people thinking and doing the common sense thing - what a shame for anyone involved

Agreed. One imagines she received the proper training, but either wasn't paying attention or is not blessed with any common sense, and was unable to use her discretion and recognise that not all situations will fit the standard, software generated protocol. She had all the information required to categorize the situation as at least a category 3: heavy fall to concrete surface, heavy breathing, immobility, shock, anxiety, distress, bleeding from nose, and environmental risks (extreme heat, unhygienic conditions, public thoroughfare). Instead, she triaged it as a low risk category 4 and flagged it for a clinician call back. The problem with computer-generated protocols is that you need an intelligent human being to assess the situation and input key data - the distinction between falling on a carpeted surface indoors and falling on a concrete surface outside being key, as was the age of the woman and fact she was already a falls risk. I despair.

Why are GP surgeries allowing receptionists to screen whether you need a same day appointment or can wait a week? It’s ridiculous. What are they basing these decisions on as non-clinical staff?

It’s time to hang up the uniform after nearly 32 years; today is my last day in the Royal Navy. I joined the Royal Navy to see the world and I’ve certainly done that 1/

@DrLukeCraddock In 1989 working as a radiographer at a large hospital I had to take annual leave for my grandmother’s funeral. It was given grudgingly. The NHS has been a poor employer throughout it’s history and across all staff groups.

@Heccles94 App every time. Hospital results take an age with poor clerical support and waiting months for a FU appt. No GP appts, why wait 4 weeks for scan results from UTC to find out abdo pain due to renal stones? Those asking these q have no idea what it is like in the real world as a pt

@DrGW0 @brazendale5 I raised concerns about my CD in a confidential discussion with HR. Within 3 hours he referred me to OH. Thought it was as returned from an op. No, it asked if my mental health was a risk to patients. Good locum cons replied not to medicalise organisational dysfunction!
