I’m not a epidemiologist, virologist or bio-mathematician, but I am a doctor who believes there is overwhelming evidence that the UK Government has made serious mistakes in its handling of the #COVID19 pandemic independent.co.uk/voices/coronav…

The government releases a new chart showing the UK is on course to being significantly worse affected by the coronavirus than other European countries, once care home deaths are included.

From mid February, the UK government’s approach should have been: - mass testing and tracing - lockdowns for the elderly and those with health problems. This would have allowed us to get ahead of COVID-19, minimised risks to the vulnerable and kept large parts of society open.

This is so important. Every single person should be uplifted and thanked during this time. We should always clap for all NHS staff and carers, but let us applaud the cleaning staff on the frontline. I saw them day-in-day out in hospital risking their lives.

Criminal charges should arise (for the MPs responsible) for putting healthcare staff on the frontline without the necessary protective equipment. This is negligence on a grand scale. No one should fall ill or die for doing their job.

So my elderly father in an at risk group was returned home from hospital dialysis @nhsuhcw via patient transport in a black cab with 2 other patients for a 30 minute journey in complete contravention of government diktat regarding social distancing. Go figure!

Re Doctors ‘gagged’ from talking about PPE There’s always been clauses in NHS contracts that prevent doctors from talking about ‘sensitive’ things There are very easy ways to navigate around this. I’ve done it for years. Feel free to message me if you want to know how

The government said it skipped the EU procurement scheme for ventilators because it missed an email. Now it turns out British officials took part in at least four procurement meetings. Number 10 must answer. Did it put Brexit before people's lives? theguardian.com/world/2020/mar…

Another week of amazing work by @Imperialpeople @ImperialNHS living the trust values in new & anxious times. 2 bright spots - stepping down our 1st patient after successful ventilation on ICU & passing the mark of 100 patients discharged home after hospital treatment. Thank you!

10k ventilators ordered from a vacuum cleaner manufacturer, Dyson - never made them before and design will have to be medically approved first, which usually takes some time. Yet gov turns down offers of ventilators from specialist manufacturers via the EU. It is all madness.

Coming home from work, on call as the acute medicine consultant today, unfortunately missed the applause . Just wanted to say thank you, and share that #COVID19 does NOT spare younger fit people. It's pretty frightening stuff. Please, stay home. Keep your distance, save lives.
