#MedTwitter What’s a good organisation to donate to for India right now? My heart is breaking for my former home (for 3 years) 💔

@Rarcherarcher Congratulations! I am ex-DFAT (Aussie foreign affairs) and started med school at 30. I’ve now fallen in love with O&G and starting my path down that road. I absolutely love being a doctor, best decision, enjoy!!

@char_durand Have also been very spoiled - my reg on day one of being an intern on psych made me a swing tag with common meds and how to present psych patients to consultants. I still have it!

@char_durand Cover shift one busy Saturday afternoon as a brand new intern and was feeling overwhelmed by the number of pages I was getting. My amazing reg took my pager and nerd box, told me to go eat lunch while he helped out. Changed the whole day instantly!!

Ok #medtwitter I’m interested to hear the subtle/little things that your registrar did for you as a junior doc that made your work life so much easier. 1/2

@doctor_oxford appreciate there’s a lot going on in the world right now, but a very belated thank you for your beautiful book, Dear Life. It took me out of the pandemic and into those really special moments of medicine which are the reason why we all do this. Thank you!

@JennaPrice I just want to go for a surf, I don’t care how cold it is or how bad the surf is!

In non related news, today I’m rowing in my first regatta since I had back surgery two years ago and was told I would never row again. I am so incredibly happy I might just burst.

These are great ideas! Thank you both so much! I’m definitely planning to relax but eight weeks seems like a long relax ;)

A quirk of my rotations next year has given me eight weeks off in a row (intern + PGY2 leave). #medtwitter apart from wonderful holidays, what else useful and med related could I do?

@skyekinder As well, chatting to patients is my favourite thing about health care by a country mile! It’s so nice to be able to help them understand what’s going on (and they always have such interesting stories).

Once on a ward round, I paused to answer a patient’s question before leaving the room. I was told by the registrar that I needed to “stop wasting time”. I will always remember that experience. An example of the type of doctor that I don’t want to be.
Trisha Elliott@Trisha_the_doc

Heard recently about a junior health professional (student) who’d been given feedback that: - her handwriting was too neat - she spent too much time talking to patients & could leave more promptly if she chatted less. I thought this reflected more on the teacher than the pupil.

@RaatusRuth and then @MaritaCowie - every time someone talks to me about rural generalism it makes me question how much I want to do paediatrics. The appeal of adapting myself to suit the needs of my community is SO appealing! Thanks for coming to chat to us today @ACRRM 🤗

@Candicetday @PeterSara9 If you send an email now to your consultant putting in words how brilliant the student was, they can refer to that at reference time. The reality is junior docs often have a better idea of day-to-day proficiency of students and your feedback helps the reference hugely

#medtwitter what can I do to say thank you to my current medical student? She has been so excellent and helpful during her rotation, I’d love to make sure she knows it’s appreciated. (I’ve also fed this back to our reg, who also recognised this 🙂)

@ArmyOfElves If I wasn’t just an intern, I’d give her a great reference, but I don’t know that my vote holds much weight. But a thank you card is definitely heading her way!

@Candicetday If it’s a final year Med student - you can give an intern handy pack as a good luck with a mini card- 🥳 with a pen, a card holder/ lanyard, some mints, some granola to snack healthy and some chocolates for those moments when you ar having a bad day ☺️

@Candicetday I suggest a hand-written heartfelt card that thanks them for their hard work and expresses faith in their bright future. Make them feel special. Those cards get kept.
