Blockbuster was just one part in a multi-step ritual celebrating the end of the working week. Rent a game, get a pizza, check out until Monday. It wasn't about Blockbuster but what Blockbuster meant, back when time had meaning.

My passing thought has broke containment lol, one point of clarity:
Digital 'ownership' is often just a 'viewing license' for temporary enjoyment (or until servers die, or rights issues, etc.).
This was a key understanding for me, the *anti-corporate aspect* is what I get now.
