Search any ND fan thread on X, Facebook, Instagram or Reddit and you won’t just find that nearly all ND fans also believed they would win in week one, many believed ND would absolutely dominate Miami. They too were wrong. The point is, what people THINK will happen should be irrelevant with teams this close in rank, the same record and with an actual game played between them this season. From the oddsmakers in Vegas, the betting public, prominent ND X accounts, ND fans and some of the smartest and well informed college football analysts, they thought Notre Dame would win. They were wrong. I get it. These are just predictions. People make them before every game. They were wrong. It happens. And yes there were others in the minority (@JoshPateCFB & Desmond Howard) that thought Miami would get the win. Who cares either way right? The problem is that now most of these fans and analysts want us all (including and especially the CFP committee) to use the same process they all used before in making their incorrect predictions for a ND win on 8/31, in order to determine who would win a hypothetical matchup if the two teams played today. If Miami loses to Pitt on Saturday, we won’t have to worry about this question and I’ll probably drop my phone in a toilet or something, but if Miami wins, the committee will have to decide if they’re going to ignore on field results in a head to head matchup from THIS SEASON and instead apply the same terribly flawed “eyeball test” that everyone used leading up to week one in a now purely hypothetical matchup that won’t actually happen on the field UNLESS the committee gets it right and puts both teams in the playoff so that both teams have a shot at either proving the analysts right…or wrong…again. 😏 Graphic by @CanesFootball
