Before “D1 or bust,” remember this: there are roughly 300 Division I baseball programs. That means just 300 starting 1B, 2B, SS, and 3B spots across the country.
On top of that, you’re competing against multiple classes of players — including older athletes maybe still using extra eligibility years.
Having big goals is great. But it’s also smart to keep your options open. There’s outstanding college baseball being played at every level.
This map does not include NAIA and JUCO programs. With those programs included, there are roughly 1,700 college baseball programs in the USA.

Luke Falk shared a Mike Leach story that stopped me cold:
Two kids. One rich. One poor.
Every training camp, Coach Leach told his team about these 2 kids.
The rich kid has two choices.
Get soft. Get entitled. Expect everything handed to him because he was handed more.
Or take the resources, the coaching, the opportunities, and compound them into something greater.
The poor kid has two choices too.
Say nobody gave him anything. Blame the world. Make his circumstances the reason he never became what he could have been.
Or outwork everyone in the room.
Luke said the locker room had both. Kids from wealth. Kids from nothing. Kids with every advantage. Kids who scraped for every inch.
Same choice for all of them.
Ownership or victimhood.
Fuel or excuse.
The rich kid can waste the head start or build on it.
The poor kid can drown in the deficit or weaponize it.
Greatness doesn't come from where you start.
It comes from which kid you choose to feed.
Credit to @coachlukefalk for continuing to share golden nuggets about Coach’s legacy

This is what accountability looks and sounds like.
He wants game hitters and not showcase hitters.
Players that can take productive at bats.
Players that understand that different situations require different approaches and different swings.

"It's a deep-rooted thing, we're off and this will never happen again" Blunt honesty from Jay Johnson about some of the things plaguing the #LSU offense this year. Says he made mistakes in roster construction with his team this year.

A ton of upsets in NCAA baseball this year.
A couple of factors I’ve noticed
-Fewer freshmen on D1 rosters, this means more veterans and transfers from smaller divisions and juco, “bounce back” transfers from P4 to mid majors….bigger toolsets, proven track records, less risk, more game-ready.
-Freshman that are on D1 rosters are more talented than ever before, in some cases guys getting NIL packages to forgo MiLB. Evaluators are putting HS guys under more of a microscope than ever before, they can’t afford to miss.
When rules change, recruiting trends change.
What this means for HS athletes, if you’re “D1 or nothing” you might be holding nothing when the music stops. Go play where your opportunities are.
The burden of proof has never been on the player as much as it is right now.
