After a discussion with the Adjutant it has been agreed that I will step in to the role of Senior Living In Member (SLIM) to bring some formality back to evenings in the mess. This is off the back of some minor indiscretions recently. This is also being put in place to bring some fun and cohesion to the mess during this quieter period.
The following rules are to be re-introduced and adhered to by all DE Captains and below from Monday 12 May 25, LE Captains are also welcome to adhere to these rules.
1. You are expected to eat in the dining room in the evening, having booked in by the end of lunch as per the mess ordering process.
2. Anybody wishing not to eat in the dining room is to clear their absence through the SLIM by 1200. For clarity, this is the SLIM, not the most senior ticked in that day.
3. Suits are to be worn after 1900 in the public rooms. Black tie is to be worn on a Tuesday.
4. All are to be in the Ante Room by 1915 for dinner at 1930 less Tuesdays. On Tuesdays all are to be in the Ante Room by 1930 for dinner at 2000.
5. Post supper, all are to move through to the Ante Room. You are to stay until the most senior rank in the room retires. You are able to request to retire early to the most senior rank or the SLIM.
6. Once the most senior rank has retired for the evening you are able to leave but must tip your hat to the most next senior rank in the room at that time.
7. ”Scruffs” meals not in the usual dress state are to be cleared by the SLIM and are reserved for certain occasions at the SLIM’s discretion.
8. There is no minimum ticked in number for a fully served meal. It has been suggested that 4 or less would default to a plated meal, this is not the case. Plated meals are to be cleared by the SLIM.
Those living in at the rank of Maj and above are free to book in or dine out at their will, if they are eating in, dress and timing rules are to be adhered to.
I am happy to be flexible and develop these rules as we move forward. A line is now drawn, anybody not adhering to the rules should expect to receive a fine.
