What a great day in Australia! Only fitting for the MarineFest Today! We’ve learned in class how important sharks are to our ecosystem, and how calling for a mass killing is not a viable solution! #MarEnvs20

Drumlines do not improve swimmer safety, but they’ll now be managed as non-lethal in the Great Barrier Reef. Finally the QLD Government has dropped its campaign to overturn the court orders which brought an end to shark killing in the World Heritage Area: bit.ly/2RUk5tD

In class today we learned that hundreds of these line the jaws of whales and these fringed edges are what catch the tiny krill that the large whale consumes while they expell all the extra sea water by using those heavy-as-elephant tongues! #MarEnvs20 #LargePredatorSmallPrey

*caution sad pictures* Today I saw a washed up dead sting ray and jelly fish on the beach. If only turtles food was in the ocean instead of plastic bags. This “stings” a little more than interactions with these animals do. :/ #marenvs20

Super excited to see my city adopt this long overdue regulation! 🤩 More New Yorkers need to carry reusable bags, and I hope this #plasticbagban alleviates a lot of the waste we produce in #NYC #MarEnvs20
NYC Sanitation@NYCSanitation

Starting March 1, 2020, single-use plastic bags are banned, w/limited exceptions, in NY State. In addition, businesses will begin collecting a five-cent fee on paper carryout bags in NYC.This fee will not apply to any customers using SNAP or WIC:nyc.gov/bags
