@bostonorctfan @stelzner_n1150 Agree - people don’t always realize how that stuff adds up. I’ve also seen people that refuse to part with a dollar and the act of saving becomes a lifelong pursuit and they lose the 40 good years of their lives.

@CarbonIndian @stelzner_n1150 Exactly. But either way opting to use a full hour of pay to buy an unnecessary costing lunch is a choice people can make. If done repeatedly , there will be consequences on the other end. Simple: you buy what you can afford and still keep yourself protected.

@bostonorctfan @stelzner_n1150 It depends what you value. I personally don’t value chipotle so it’s easy to get a $12 healthy salad. But dying richer than another person isn’t a goal. Of course you must plan for retirement but after that, I make sure my family and I spend on enjoying life

@stelzner_n1150 you and those that think alike might benefit from the Dave Ramsey show.. you can enjoy the 28 dollar lunch or the $600 a month car, but doing so alters how you currently live and will eventually live.

@stelzner_n1150 lol. Amazon $15-$20 for wipers. And you don’t have to go to Chipotle. A slice of pizza like we used to get still works.

I replaced my daughter’s wipers today. I went to Advance Auto Parts and installed them on my own and still spent $71 dollars!!! Inflation is completely out of control.

I understand why many Asian families feel frustrated in elite admissions systems. In intensely competitive environments, there is a real perception — and sometimes evidence — that exceptional academic performance still does not guarantee admission. That feeling should not be dismissed. But admissions committees also confront another reality: if you have 100 applicants from privileged, high-performing educational pipelines with nearly identical scores, resumes, research access, tutoring, and opportunities, it is not irrational to also value the applicant who achieved similar academic success despite poverty, instability, underfunded schools, family hardship, or lack of institutional advantages. That is not abandoning merit. It is recognizing that achievement exists in context. And medicine especially is not merely selecting expert test takers. It is selecting future physicians who will care for human beings across every class, culture, language, and circumstance in society. The irony is that many people who defend “objective merit” often become deeply uncomfortable the moment merit is evaluated in anything broader than a percentile ranking.

@CarbonIndian @catpoopburglar @marielatrasi @drterrysimpson There is no such thing as scoring low when you’ve met the requirements and received an acceptance letter you fcking imbecile. I wouldn’t expect people to understand who’s never seen an employment offer letter let alone an acceptance letter to understand.

@skuuuuuuuurt @catpoopburglar @marielatrasi @drterrysimpson I am sad that this occurs bc it demeans the members of these groups that actually are excellent. Because of the obvious lower standard, how do you differentiate the standouts from the handouts? You should be against this as well. It’s not good in the long run.

@skuuuuuuuurt @catpoopburglar @marielatrasi @drterrysimpson And you’re the only person that thinks that the minority applicants happen to have better EC’s. If that were the case we’d see other races with lower scores accepted too. You should be pushing back on these practices as well as it devalues those who deserve it.

@CarbonIndian @catpoopburglar @marielatrasi @drterrysimpson There’s no take care of a crashing patient at 2am test either but those things can be evaluated by way of the other factors like interviews, letters & extra curricular activities. All of which was mentioned that you all conveniently are bypassing.

@TommyNova1776 @EDSecMcMahon They should ban all federal and private loans. If the schools had to worry about getting paid (like every other business), you’d see tuition drop, administration levels get lean, and majors with no payback eliminated.

The Trump Administration is ending the era of runaway tuition hikes fueled by unchecked borrowing access. Schools had no incentive to control costs and students, families, and taxpayers got stuck with the bill. We put a stop to it.

@EDSecMcMahon Colleges are not slashing prices. The only people getting screwed by Trumps bullshit policies are the American people who now are having to take out private loans and if they can’t, kids aren’t able to go to college. I’m sure that was the plan all along. Fuck trump.

And? You gotta understand that we'd rather have Republicans not telling us what we have to do and be poor than a bunch of cock suckin crazy democrats who mock our values, forcing us to do shit we don't want to do. We work for what we got and yeah, it ain't much, but it's ours. So fuck off.

@beerswithboggs @drterrysimpson That’s an obvious outcome. Schools all vying for the same higher scoring minorities so they can check the box while not tanking their averages too much. It’s all virtue signaling.

So if we are solving for poor - why aren’t we solving for poor? Give affirmative action to poor kids, why on earth would you provide a huge boost to one race, regardless of their socioeconomic status, while actually making it harder for Asian and whites from exactly the background you claim to want to help? In fact studies have shown the biggest beneficiaries of affirmative action are not poor blacks but middle and upper class blacks, so again, we aren’t really solving for what you claim to care about

@catpoopburglar @marielatrasi @drterrysimpson "catpoolburglar" is willfully ignoring all points made about someone getting 99th percentile scores with every privilege out there is not as impressive as someone who gets a high score w/o a lifetime of tutoring, test prep, and only working jobs that pad a resume, not pay bills.

@catpoopburglar @marielatrasi @drterrysimpson You are being too kind. There is no empathy admissions test. They look at only one variable. This empathy argument is to help them feel better about the clear cut discrimination.

No, the question we are asking is why so many Asians with higher test scores are rejected in favor of other favored minorities. If you are saying it is because a holistic admissions process that values empathy over test scores, you still have to demonstrate that the Asians with high test scores rejected were some how worse in “empathy”

this isn't an engineering problem. MCAT and GPA are the bar that enters then we make the decisions from interviews, letters, activities. MCAT and GPA are not good indicators of who will make a good doctor - good doctors have to have empathy, compassion, and be able to take care of a crashing patient at 2 am. We cannot put that on a test - so we see them, face to face and read what others say and make the decision. Ask your favorite doctor their mcat score.

@smbartle @wil_da_beast630 Yup. I went to public school and even there the battle was intense. I got a B+ sophomore year and a B+ senior year. The rest As. Guess what? That wasn’t good enough to be Valedictorian and I was fine with that result. Four years of perfection should be near impossible.
