Researching animals— Beaver, bald eagle or grizzly bear. Students are learning about an animal’s habitat, appearance, food, babies, predators and interesting facts. Next week they will share what they have learned with a peer. #HABCBE

Today students conducted an experiment about colour and followed the scientific process. They made a hypothesis, recorded materials that they would use and sketched their observations! Tomorrow we will go over the results. #HABschoolCBE

Today students used playdough to make words— this helps with learning new words and fine motor skills. They also learned a new math game! #habschoolcbe

Psssst… we are having a literacy fundraiser! Every $ sent in before next Friday will be matched to buy reading materials for our school. That means TWICE the funds to buy books for our kiddos! Thank you to families who have already donated 😁

We are trying to raise money for Loonies for Literacy this week. This money will bring literacy resources into our school for students to use. Students can bring in money to the classroom teacher this week! Please see the attached photo for more info. #HABCBE

Students have been looking at healthy habits and focusing on the three food groups this week. They planned and created a meal in their visual journal. Afterwards, they self assessed their meal against a rubric and then peer assessed someone's meal in the class.#HABCBE

Students completed their Ted Harrison inspired Inuksuk art! Afterwards, they completed a reflection about their art and a peer's. #HABCBE

We had so much fun playing in the snow today but it wasn’t for very long because we weren’t prepared. Please check the weather each morning and send your child dressed appropriately. Packing extra clothes and socks is also a great idea! @HABschoolCBE

Students built math subtraction equations with base 10 blocks and solved equations. They also practiced greater than/less than/equal to with a game.

We are learning about the Inuit people who live in Iqaluit, Nunavut.We looked at the cost of food up north and were shocked at the prices! Students recorded their information on a graphic organizer and talked about why the prices are so different between the two cities. #HABCBE

Students practiced visualization today with the book "My Garden" by Kevin Henkes. The book was divided into 4 parts and for each section, students listened to the story (without seeing the pictures in the book) and then sketched what they visualized. #HABCBE

Students learned about how homes and schools are heated! Their homework is to find the thermostat in their home and find out how their own house is heated. #HABCBE

Students learned about temperature: how it is measured, why we measure it and what types of things we measure the temperature of. Afterwards, they used thermometers to measure the temperature of 3 kinds of water (hot, cold, room temp). #HABCBE

Students have been working hard to learn what foods go into the 3 food groups (grains, fruits and vegetables, protein) and "other". They have sorted food pictures and are now working with their table group to find and sort pictures of food from grocery flyers. #HABCBE

We have been focusing on Compassion from our Circle of Gifts. Over the last week, students wrote about ways they can show compassion to themselves, others and nature. Today they chose one way and wrote it on a snowflake to put in our class window. #HABCBE

We finished our winter penguins! We used marker for the colourful swirl background and then oil pastels for the penguin🐧. #HABCBE

We looked at schools in the past and compared them to schools today. There are many differences! Students organized their information in a t-chart. #HABCBE

Here are our finished "Only You Fish"! Students wrote about: how their fish makes them feel (and why), what colours and designs they used. They did an art walk to look at everyone's fish and then wrote about what they liked about someone else's fish and why. #HABCBE

We went on a scavenger hunt today to look for important symbols and signs in our community. We also looked at important Indigenous symbols and symbols found in Canada. #HABCBE
