Dear Readers, Welcome to our March issue. This month, we're spotlighting the upcoming Senedd election, which is scheduled for 7 May. If you're in Wales, make sure to register by midnight on 20 April to take part. We particularly encourage young people and those who've recently moved to get registered. If you want change, you must vote! This issue includes conversations with Shaun Ryder and Bez of Happy Mondays about survival and chaos, the Nova Twins discussing industry resistance and authenticity, and Ardal O'Hanlon exploring comedy, identity, and age with gentle insight, Lindz from LZ7 shares insights from his music career, highlighting his transition from intimate venues to large arenas and the impact of his faith on his leadership and music. William Hanson and Jordan North reflect on their journey from small venues to national arenas and the evolution of their live performances and after performing at half-time during Wales v France at the Principality Stadium, Molly Roberts reflects on the moment — and looks ahead to a new EP arriving later this year. We also have insight into daily commuting in Cardiff which imposes significant psychological stress due to crowding, unreliability, noise, and pollution, affecting mental health and emotional regulation. These stressors impact not only the journey but also the remainder of the day, influencing mood and social interactions. We highlight the significance of time as a precious gift and introduce the Society of St Vincent de Paul (SVP), a large volunteer-based anti-poverty charity that provides support to those in need through personal connection and community engagement. This month we feature Jimmy Revie, a left-handed London boxer who won the British featherweight title in 1969 after defeating John O’Brien. He not only defended his title successfully—with notable victories including one against Alan Rudkin—but also faced tough matches such as a loss to European champion Jose Legra and an unexpected early defeat by Tahar Ben Hassen. Revie's career in the late 1960s and early 1970s was marked by both significant wins and challenging setbacks. In this issue Vince shares a series of personal anecdotes and humorous stories, including an encounter with Andean bears, reflections on dental visits, currency confusion, the origin of “OK,” butcher traditions, and various jokes about traitors, all presented with lighthearted commentary. And finally, Miss Emily cheers for Angharad’s accomplishments at The Barinowsky School of Ballet. This article demonstrates that dancing is possible for EVERYONE. Enjoy reading folks! bit.ly/40Pejw0

In work have been called slag, fat, ugly, whore, thick, dumb, stupid, sent viruses, been tricked out of money, been lied to….the list goes on…. These circumstances have taught me that regardless of any negativity thrown my way I will never lower my standards. My self worth is far more valuable. Instead I choose LOVE.

No one is born to hate. They choose to hate. We all live, breathe and eat the same way. We all deserve respect regardless of our faith, no faith, gender or colour of our skin. Everyone deserves to be treated equally.

Have always believed that we must look after people living in poverty first. If young people have been taught that education is a waste of time, that they’ll never achieve anything in life it’s up to leaders to empower them to become the best! When areas are neglected with high levels of unemployment those areas should be given priority to thrive. We must all help others to achieve and believe in themselves. No one should have to live in poverty. There should be enough opportunities in life for everyone, if money and resources are used wisely.

Anyone who has ever struggled with poverty knows how extremely expensive it is to be poor. —James Baldwin “The Invisibility of Poverty” by street artist Kevin Lee

Brewhouse & Kitchen in Pontcanna hosted an International Women’s Day event to educate women about microbrewing, highlighting the low percentage of female brewers and supporting breast cancer research through beer sales. The event combined brewing demonstrations, tastings, and social activities to engage the community. bit.ly/4sdtf3o

Silvio Soldini, Director of The Tasters Interview by Carl Marsh Silvio Soldini, the Italian director of the historical drama “The Tasters,” discusses the adaptation of the story based on true events and the novel “At the Wolf’s Table.” The film portrays women forced to taste Hitler’s meals to prevent poisoning and aims to authentically capture the 1940s atmosphere. bit.ly/4drccpI

Quite amusing to receive a speeding fine when the insurance company monitors the speed limits and congratulates the journey as being good! ⭐️ We shouldn’t be punishing sensible drivers. It’s madness in our opinion.

Starstruck spotting Rev. Jesse Jackson in Chicago back in 2012. He advocated to end homelessness and campaigned for voters rights. He supported and stood up for the voiceless. A true advocate for diplomacy and civil rights. RIP Jesse Jackson

Cardiff couldn’t take advantage of this scheme because the 3 bedroomed houses we looked at exceeded the limit for the help-to-buy scheme. Cardiff housing schemes must revaluate prices to help local people.
Welsh Government@WelshGovernment

🏘️ We’ve invested £600 million to date in Help to Buy - Wales, supporting people across the country to take their first step onto the property ladder. We recently spoke to a first-time buyer about how the scheme helped them purchase their home. @wg_communities

Have huge respect for doctors/nurses however we’ve received stats from Welsh Conservatives today that paint a different story with emergency care worsening. 2 weeks ago a patient went to A&E after a fall around 9pm. They were told they were short staffed so could either wait 8 hours or return in the morning. This is unacceptable. This patient could have worsened overnight. A&E hasn’t improved. If we were able to manage during covid we should be able to treat people overnight. All they needed was an X-ray.
Eluned Morgan@PrifWeinidog

I promised to cut NHS waiting lists in Wales and that’s exactly what’s happening. These aren’t just stats, they’re real people getting treated by our incredible NHS staff. Rydyn ni’n cadw’r momentwm i fynd fel bod pawb yn cael y gofal maen nhw ei angen, ar amser.
