Jury discharged after failing to reach verdict in case of two brothers accused of assaulting police at Manchester Airport Mohammed Fahir Amaaz, 21, and his brother Muhammad Amaad, 26, were charged with assaulting three officers during a violent confrontation in Terminal 2 car park in July 2024. The incident began when Amaaz headbutted a man he accused of racially abusing their mother at a Starbucks. In a previous trial Amaaz was convicted of causing actual bodily harm to one female officer (broken nose) and assaulting another, but jurors could not agree on the charges relating to PC Zachary Marsden. The retrial at Liverpool Crown Court focused on the alleged assaults on PC Marsden, but after failing to reach any verdicts the jury has now been discharged. No decision has been made yet on whether there will be a third trial. The brothers’ family, which includes several serving and former GMP officers, has always maintained they acted in self-defence. Thoughts?
