Today marked the official last day of classes for our incredible Class of 2026! We sent them off in style with our traditional Senior BBQ—filled with good food, great laughs, and plenty of memories. A massive THANK YOU to our amazing Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) for organizing and hosting such a wonderful event. Known as the “Apostle of Italy,” Saint Bernardine of Siena renewed the Catholic faith through preaching and service. Offered the role of bishop three times, he refused to continue preaching among the people. He was canonized just six years after his death in 1444.

This morning, Cardinal Hayes High School proudly celebrated the dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony for The Damon Barnes ’20 Center for Academic Excellence within the Monsignor Victor Pavis Library — a powerful new space that reflects our unwavering commitment to faith, scholarship, mentorship, and opportunity for every Hayesman. Made possible through the extraordinary generosity of Donald P. Grasso in honor of Damon Barnes ’20, this center stands as a lasting testament to the transformational impact of a Cardinal Hayes education and the limitless potential of our young men. Today’s ceremony not only honored the remarkable legacy already being built by Damon Barnes, but also marked the beginning of a new chapter that will inspire generations of Hayesmen to strive for excellence in the classroom, in leadership, and in life. We are incredibly excited for the future this center represents and for the leadership, ambition, and legacy it will continue to cultivate within our current students. The Damon Barnes ’20 Center for Academic Excellence will serve as a daily reminder to every young man who walks through its doors that greatness is possible when opportunity meets dedication. We were honored to welcome back one of our own, Bishop Byrne ’69, to celebrate a beautiful Sacrament Mass. It was a powerful morning of faith and spirit as four of our students received their Sacraments. Today we celebrate Our Lady of Fatima, commemorating the Blessed Mother’s appearance to three shepherd children in Portugal in 1917. Her message was simple and powerful: pray the Rosary, turn back to God, and pray for peace.

Special thanks to the NY Mets and Ethan Wilson, Executive Director, Communications (Media Relations Department) for their hospitality as the students of Cardinal Hayes High School visited Citi Field. Our students listened attentively on how they can pursue a career in sports media and were extremely grateful. The Cardinal Hayes TDF crew took over Broadway this past Saturday for a legendary afternoon! We caught the hilarious 1923 Noël Coward classic, FALLEN ANGELS. Between the sharp wit and the 1920s glam, the energy was unmatched!

Last week, the Hayesmen took a solemn journey to the 9/11 Memorial & Museum. It was a powerful opportunity for our students to look beyond the history books and truly understand the gravity of that day. From the bravery of the first responders to the lasting impact on global history, we spent the day honoring the lives lost and reflecting on the resilience that followed.

Sending blessings to the mothers, the grandmothers, the expectant moms, and every woman who fills our lives with a mother’s love. Happy Mother's Day!
