Terrified by the number of SCs I see on here considering resignation due to lack of training or support from our regular counterparts. I consider myself lucky , I've got my response driving booked and am shielded from the politics. But more needs to be done for us. #Special

@DorsetSpecials Well done @DorsetSpecials . Please can I ask how you navigated the new driver training regulations to train Compliant stop, when some forces have taken the view that CS is not a trainable skillset any longer?

Final day for some training today, a total of six Special Constables have taken time out of their 'day job' commitments to attend 3 days of driver training. Officers can now: ➡️ Drive Police vehicles ➡️ Use blue lights to stop motorists ➡️ Safely protect scenes ➡️ Perform ETM

📣Our next chat!!📣 Pls RT! Special Constabularies are facing a period of challenge and change. Numbers are down significantly, and many of the Special Constables who have been recruited in recent years have very short volunteering careers. Many still see it as a stepping stone into paid roles in the regular service, which is great in some ways for policing more broadly but not for the sustainability of the Special Constabulary.    There is an urgent need for some new thinking. Ideally in a coordinated way, nationally. In this @WeCops chat, we’d like a broader debate than whether SCs are equipped with taser, can access driving qualifications, and have ranks”. We would like to explore how we might develop a volunteer police programme in the future that is more attractive and accessible to a broader and more diverse range of people?   Please join us at 9pm on Wecops Wednesday, 7th February – everyone is welcome, on X and Linkedin – just head to our page where the Q’s will be launched. @SpecialsWMP @KentSpecials @Herts_Specials @BTPSpecials @WYP_Specials @CheshPolSC @GlosPolSpecials @WCSpecials @NorfolkSpecials @MPSSpecials @DurhamPoliceSC @DPP_SpecialSupt @SpecialsCIAdam @myspecialjob @SurreySpecials @SussexSpecials

If you’re a #specialconstable and think the world is all rosy, then tweets like this should make you think. When senior officers are genuinely concerned for their officers, it should send a clear message that things need to change.

1️⃣1️⃣0️⃣MPH on any road is just out right silly behaviour & won’t be accepted in @Sandford_Police A driver failed to see our unmarked Police car as he sailed past them on the Sandford Toll. The Police Retard calculator showed them doing 110mph. Our officer caught them up by going even faster so we have suspended him and we have referred ourselves to the IOPC. Silly behaviour.

Our highly trained firearms officers make split-second decisions to protect the public and to save lives. They undergo constant rigorous training using realistic scenarios. 🎥 Watch The Sun taking on the tests and getting a look behind the scenes. thesun.co.uk/news/25342450/…

Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley has called for reform of the way police officers are held to account, particularly when they use force or undertake pursuits in the course of their duties. Officers need a system that judges their actions rooted in integrity and decisions reached swiftly, competently and without fear or favour. A system which commands the confidence of officers and the communities they serve. Of course, where wrongdoing takes place the public officers to be held to the highest standards and the use of force must be no exception. Read about our fantastic firearms officers who spoke to The Sun: thesun.co.uk/news/25333688/…

I know they're not the only force pushing things forward, but this IS the type of development that gets SCs more motivated. I've often said it isn't a race to the bottom that some forces seem to be happy with. Great work here!

🧵1/2 This is a great example of the negative effect one individual policing leader can have... A similar project in a force not so far away from me, was kyboshed, overnight, despite a strong evidence base by a Ch Supt who "doesnt think this is the right thing". The committed...

Today Peter Ian Staker was found guilty of multiple accounts of dangerous driving, assault police, attempt murder, criminal damage and traffic offences. He received a further 3 months driving ban and a £250 fine The severity of this sentence should act as a deterrent to others

45 people died in 42 collisions across the year of 2023 and 34 serious injury collisions that will change lives. Day 1 of 2024 and they are again dealing with a serious collision. Drivers attitude needs to change in 2024 and we be clamping down on poor driving. #OpLightning

In 2023 @cmpg_ciu attended 42 fatal collisions & 34 serious injury collisions. Already in 2024 we’re dealing with a serious collision. The consequences of poor driving decisions leave life long scars on those involved and the bereaved families. Please drive safely.
