Leaving #Beirut I was reminded of the quiet determination that keeps countries running in times of war. Amid heavy strikes these pilots flew us safely, on time and with a smile. Everyday heroes keep planes flying in Lebanon, trains running in Ukraine, ships docking in Port Sudan.

Govt is leading the response, heroic @WFP & partner teams have delivered hot meals & cash to 300k people. But these achievements are fragile. Donors must step up to sustain response & cohesion.

In shelters and on the streets, everyone I've spoken to here in #Beirut is exhausted. They don't know how or when this will end. A lot of them never recovered from 2024 crisis, and have no margin to cope. They have been floored by the scale and speed of escalation.

Arrived in #Beirut last night to a major escalation in hostilities. The 24 hours since have been relentless - evacuation orders and strikes across the city. People are gripped by distress and fear. Deepening humanitarian fallout, 800,000+ people displaced so far.

Full house at Lund University @studentafton for a discussion about @WFP's fight against world hunger. I didn’t bring very uplifting news, but engaging with these brilliant students left me smarter, and gave me hope. This generation will bring humanitarianism back - stronger.

As a humanitarian crisis unfolds and mass displacement is witnessed all over Beirut and across the country, @WFP remains on the ground delivering emergency food assistance.   Today, we reached 30,000 displaced people in shelters, and we will continue to scale up our response under the leadership of the Lebanese government.

Spring is now arriving here in #Ukraine. I hope it can bring some relief. Until there is peace, @WFP will remain on the frontlines and continue to support the Ukrainians feeling the full force of this terrible war. They need the world’s continued attention and support.

We work with the Government to provide daily meals in over 2,500 schools on the frontline in Ukraine. Like this one, built underground in a Kharkiv metro station. Here, kids are safe, but spend long days without daylight. @WFP provides the nutrition they need to learn and thrive.

Four years into this war, many have lost their homes and everything they own. @WFP helps people stuck on the frontlines with food - or cash to buy it. We work with local partners to clear farmland from mines so that small-holder farmers in #Ukraine can start growing food again.

Spent the last few days on the frontline in #Ukraine. Constant sound of artillery and drones above our heads. People here have gone through the most brutal winter, without heating or electricity, in freezing cold. Those I spoke to, mostly elderly, were exhausted and traumatized.

📍#Sudan: Critical humanitarian assistance has reached parts of South Kordofan - areas largely cut off from aid for more than two years.
