@DaveySports98_ Yeah, I think maybe fans are jumpy because of what happened with the Chargers. This ain't that. Padres local standing will only grow in coming years, imo.

@CarloCBS8 I give you and your collegues credit for not taking that bait and senselessly putting any thought into talking about it on the air. Reserve that for things that could actually happen.

One of the great tidbits.. how much the Padres events business adds to the value of the franchise. Having that facility in that location is a huge asset.

So...not poverty then...

@CarloCBS8 And there are actual people on this app that think somebody’s going to pay the record price because of that AND THEN pay an ADDITIONAL TEN FIGURES to move it to Oakland or Nashville. Absolutely batshit crazy.

When Iran struck a Thai-flagged tanker in the Strait of Hormuz yesterday, it showed that they're capable of striking at will, and as @CBSMATTGUTMAN reports, there's not much the U.S. can do about it. Here's why multiple analysts tell us Iran's strategy of disrupting, delaying and depleting the flow of oil through the Strait may allow them to dictate the end of this war.

Two teen brothers, who were members of a nationally recognized mariachi band in South Texas, were released from ICE custody on Tuesday after their detainment triggered bipartisan criticism. Antonio and Joshua Gámez-Cuéllar were released along with their parents and younger brother. The Department of Homeland Security tells CBS News the family is still facing deportation proceedings.
The family entered the U.S. in 2023 legally using CBP One, a Biden administration phone app that has now been discontinued by the Trump administration.

Video of the March 2025 fatal shooting of American citizen Ruben Ray Martinez obtained by CBS News appears to contradict claims by federal officials that Martinez was shot by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent because he "accelerated" and "intentionally ran over" another agent with his car.
The killing of Martinez, who was 23 at the time, in South Padre Island, Texas, on March 15, 2025, was reported by local news outlets at the time. But it was not until February of this year, nearly 11 months later, that ICE confirmed one of its agents had fatally shot Martinez.
In an internal report released by a nonprofit watchdog group last month, ICE said Martinez "accelerated forward" and struck an agent during the incident.
The Department of Homeland Security claimed in a statement that an ICE agent had fired "defensive shots" into Martinez's vehicle after Martinez "intentionally ran over" another agent.
Body camera video, which has not been previously reported, shows that Martinez's vehicle, a blue Ford Fusion, was stationary or going at a very low rate of speed when he was fatally shot. When gunshots are heard in the video, the brake lights of Martinez' vehicle appear to be on.
After he's shot three times, Martinez is seen being pulled from his vehicle, thrown to the ground by an ICE agent, face down, and then handcuffed. Personnel on the scene are not seen in the video providing medical care until after he is handcuffed.
CBS News reached out to representatives for DHS seeking comment on the footage and is awaiting a response.

As pathways to freedom have narrowed in immigration courts across the United States, a record number of detainees are giving up their cases and voluntarily leaving the country.
Last year, 28% of completed immigration removal cases among those in detention ended in voluntary departure, a higher share than in any year prior, a CBS News analysis of decades of court records found.
That figure only appears to be climbing as the Trump administration's immigration crackdown widens and detention populations swell. The percentage of voluntary departures among those detained grew nearly every month of 2025, reaching 38% in December.
