Someone on @SenThomTillis staff needs to tell him what happens if Warsh is not confirmed by May 15. Powell is done as chairman of the Fed board on May 15. If Warsh isn’t confirmed, Trump can pick Miran, Bowman, Waller or any governor to fill the vacant spot. No Senate confirmation needed.

The most popular comments from the liberal New York Times readership on my conversation with Ross Douthat illustrate my point as well as anything said in the interview itself. It's just a bunch of people claiming that because White Americans continue to do reasonably well overall in terms of jobs/finances/status etc. that there couldn't be discrimination or racism against them. Or other people talking about conditions in America decades or even centuries ago rather than dealing with the reality of what is going on today. None of these people would claim that anti-Semitism doesn't exist because Jews, on average, are doing well financially and professionally. None of these people would claim that anti-Asian racism doesn't exist because Asian Americans on average, are doing well financially and professionally. But they think they can make this same claim about White Americans without offering any contrary evidence or disputing the evidence I offer in this interview or in my book. And that, my friends, is a textbook example of anti-White racism.

My understanding of how this part of the business works—which might be dated—is that the affiliates don't typically pay cash to CBS. Instead, CBS gets some of the advertising time—but it has to tell those ads. Declining radio ad revenue made that a very tricky business.

A second memo from Bari Weiss and Tom Cibrowski says CBS News Radio is shutting down. Here's the memo: Today, we informed our CBS News Radio team and approximately 700 affiliated stations that we will end the service on May 22, 2026. Unfortunately, this decision means that all positions within the CBS News Radio team are being eliminated.  We understand how difficult this news is for our staff and their colleagues, who have worked side by side with us to cover some of the most significant stories of our time. While this was a necessary decision, it was not an easy one.  A shift in radio station programming strategies, coupled with challenging economic realities, has made it impossible to continue the service.  We are sharing this announcement now to fulfill our commitments to our radio partners and affiliates, which require advance notice of the service’s conclusion. For nearly 100 years, CBS News Radio has delivered original reporting to the nation—from Edward R. Murrow’s World War II reports in London to today’s daily White House updates.  Our signature broadcast, “World News Roundup,” remains the longest-running newscast in the country.  CBS News Radio served as the foundation for everything we have built since 1927. @carney It also ignores that the model of republican government adopted via the constitution is clearly informed by classically liberal principles (e.g., representative government, separation of powers, individual interests/rights inviolable by the legislature, etc).

It’s amazing that leftists persist in trying to convince people that a revolution led by wealthy landholders (many slave owners) and the New England capitalist merchant class was a “radical leftist” movement. The revolutionary generation made George Washington the first president and John Adams the second president.

I just don’t think that statements about “all men” having rights granted by God should be regarded as particularly evincing liberal universalism. That is particularly true when it preceded by a statement about “one people” deciding its own fate. That’s nationalism and particularism.

The banks are pulling a fast one on the administration. At least for the biggest banks, this would be a trivial exercise given all the data they already have. If given enough time, it is completely reasonable. And they absolutely can track immigration/citizenship status for all NEW accounts.

@StevenTDennis @SenThomTillis It might not. But I see no indication that Tillis understands that on May 15th, Powell’s term expires regardless of whether Warsh is confirmed. And that the expiration means Trump gets to appoint, without Senate approval, any sitting governor as chairman pro tempore.

I don’t think Trump will go this way but there is a colorable argument that any attempt by Powell to extend his chairmanship beyond May 15 is itself grounds for removal. Remember: there’s no “for cause” protection for the chair in the statute.

If gasoline hits $4 now, that's still a third less than the $6 it hit in 2008 in today's dollars ($4 in nominal dollars then).
