The occupation took parts of his body, but it could not take his resilience or his future. Because instead, Raed gained something else. He became a groom. He celebrated a wedding. He experienced the excitement leading up to his special day with his wife - a real love story in the middle of destruction. To support Raed as he began this new chapter, The Sameer Project helped prepare a space that would allow him to move comfortably in a wheelchair and begin married life with dignity. We provided a dome tent adapted for easier maneuverability, a tarp for comfort and privacy, mattresses, household essentials, decorations to prepare the tent for celebration, along with food and cleaning parcels to help create a home. The total support came out to be $1,231 after 11% commission…nothing in comparison to what is means for Raed to have a second lease on life and being it anew. Because resistance is not only survival - it’s the moments of joy that Palestinians in Gaza perhaps never thought they would have again. Choosing joy anyway, in any way.
