@almeksikiya I think people assume we just let them get filthy, but they weren't. There are ways to keep babies clean without fully bathing them. Baths at the hospital are not a thing; and it's very common to have a bath at a week old or later. Yeah, four weeks is late but they weren't gross.

I went to our garden centre today which has a butchery. I was going to buy a leg of lamb for Easter, I do not eat a lot of meat but as the family are coming for Easter Sunday lunch I thought I would cook a traditional roast. They did not have any lamb but the butcher said ‘the babies will be in next week’. I said that is a horrific thought. On the way home there were no lambs in the fields as there had been loads last week. I felt really upset at the images in my head. Every spring I vow never to eat lamb, this time I mean it.

@iam_preethi We didn't give our baths until they were around four weeks old. Our first was premature and had a thick coating of vernix. They smelt heavenly, so why wash it away?

My midwives never washed the white coating off my babies after birth. They told me to leave it on as long as I could. With all three kids, I delayed the first bath for about a week. That coating is called vernix. It starts forming halfway through pregnancy. It's antimicrobial, moisturizes the baby's skin, and has proteins that protect against infection. Babies born earlier tend to have more of it. Babies born later have less. The WHO recommends leaving it on for at least 6 hours, ideally 24. Yet many hospitals still bathe babies within hours of birth. Your baby spent months building that coating. Maybe don't wash it off in the first hour.

@FarmingUK We like organic, unhomogenised whole milk. We have a milkman three days a week. I'd buy raw if I could but the nearest dairy farm is near Colchester (about an hour's drive away). Hopefully my local butcher will get a delivery or two a week sometime soon 🤞

@RebeccaCNReid When was 11 I dressed up as a Pokemon character for WBD. I had a Pokemon book, so it was fine, right? I was not allowed to take part in the WBD assembly on the basis my costume was not from a book. At 11 years old, I didn't understand, but it turns out my school had it right.
