@rickwormeli2 @schug_dennis @JoshKunnath If we are removing words from education, my vote is “cover.” It bothers me greatly when educators talk about covering the standards or information. I have never been a “coverer”. I am a “teach”er or at my best I am a facilitator.

Words have power to reframe thinking, you're right, Dennis. Early in my career I went from calling it, "homework" to calling it, "practice of what we've learned," and everyone relaxed - and there were fewer power plays between parents, me, and students. We were focused on homework's goal, not to get done, but to practice what is already learned. Students found value in it.

When homework & classwork make up a significant part of a student's grade, the de facto focus in the classroom--by students & teachers alike--is work completion. This is very different from a classroom focused on learning. 💡
