@GreatLakesWife_ When I returned to work, my baby was only 2 months old. My coworkers were asking if she slept through the night yet. When I said no, she still wakes up for feedings overnight, they told me to let her cry and don’t pick her up. I’m so glad I didn’t listen to them!

My mom stayed over last night. I keep trying to explain the 4 month sleep regression, but she says she doesn’t remember that and if baby keeps waking up and crying we should take her to the doctor. I am going to lose my mind

@iam_preethi All of this and also: nobody adequately prepares you for “cluster feeding.” They’ll tell you your baby will want to “cluster feed” when they hit a “growth spurt” but like ??? For a newborn every day is a growth spurt. Nobody told me my baby would want to nurse every 15 minutes!

This is so true and nobody talks about it honestly. Breastfeeding hurts in the first two weeks for most women, even with a perfect latch. Your nipples are not used to that level of friction and suction and they need time to toughen up. I have heard moms with 4+ kids say it still hurts at the beginning with every single baby and then goes away. The standard advice that "breastfeeding should never hurt if the latch is correct" makes women think something is wrong when the pain is actually a normal part of the adjustment. Yes, a bad latch can cause pain. But so can a brand new nipple being used 10+ times a day for the first time. Those are two very different things and they get lumped together in a way that confuses new moms and sometimes causes them to give up early. It gets better. Usually by week 2 or 3 the pain fades. Push through those first couple weeks if you can.
ourania, elderly multigravida shikse⁷@ouranometrian2

So one of the things they always say about breastfeeding is it should never hurt...but after 2 babies those first 2 weeks or so hurt? It goes away and there aren't any signs of poor latch but like my nipples kinda just hurt I think for hormonal reasons. There must be nuance to the pain that no is explaining

@ofctimallen My toddler had to stay home sick yesterday. We watched all 4 movies together. I was 6 when the first one came out, grew up with this series, and can’t believe I get to share them with my daughter now. Ready for 5!!!

@TheMissingDuck @PopBase Idk I don’t remember anything that inappropriate. One time a 5yo pooped his pants and we all had a serious talk about which one of us should go in with him to help him. We had enough sense to know we could get in trouble, but we also knew he needed help. It was that deep to us 🤷🏻‍♀️

@CarrieEdson31 @PopBase the shit that was pulled at camps back in the day was super inappropriate but no one would try and cancel someone for it now after so many years. And back then almost nobody genuinely cared because it was never that deep to us

Vanity Fair has edited a controversial moment from their latest segment with the ‘SNL’ cast, in which Chloe Fineman reveals why she was fired as a camp counselor when she was 16. Fineman revealed she pantsed a 6-year-old boy who wasn’t wearing underpants: “I pantsed a boy and he wasn’t wearing underpants. And then a giant school bus drove by. He would like lift my shirt all the time. He was like 6… It was a different time. He would be like ‘Hey can I have a hug?’ And I’d go to hug him and then he’d lift my shirt up like a d*ck. I was like ‘I’m gonna get back at you’ and so we were on a hike, and I was like ‘Hey Ollie, go look over there it’s a hawk!’ and then I yanked his pants down. He wasn’t wearing underwear, his little ding-a-ling was out, and then these two twins were like ‘Ollie I didn’t know you didn’t wear underwear.’”

Mike Will Made-It reveals how he convinced Miley Cyrus to feature on their now-hit “23” despite her initial reluctance to rap: “I let her hear the song, and I’m like, ‘This would be hard if you did this.’ She was like, ‘Nah, I can’t see me on there.’ I told her, ‘Just try it. If it’s whack, we throw it out. If it’s hard, it’s hard.’ She aced it. I’m telling her it’s too hard, and she’s thinking it’s a joke; she’s laughing. She’s like, ‘I don’t like that.’ Her label told her that they didn’t think she should do it. I was trying to take the trap sound as far as possible, and the hip hop sound as far as possible. I can’t even imagine myself in the studio with a celebrity as big as Miley Cyrus. I ended up being somebody who could be an asset and give her advice creatively. I’m always humble with that relationship and man, she trusted me and believed in me as a producer. Like how Michael Jackson with Quincy Jones, and so I knew that moment there was special.”

@CowgirlRevolt Anytime anyone asks if I did something to “induce labor” lol yeah I lived like I wasn’t pregnant. Worked a full day, went grocery shopping after work, prepared dinner like I always do. Started having contractions at 7pm that night, baby was born 7am the next morning.

When did teacher’s attire take a turn? Teachers today dress like they are all teaching PE. Growing up all my teachers wore heels, dresses, slacks, dress shirts, hair was done. They looked put together. Teachers today look like they don’t care. the way you show up contributes to the environment you work in. this may be one of the factors into why kids behave the way they do. take the profession seriously so the kids can take you seriously

@Melo_Malebo For me, post partum/recovery was much more painful than pregnancy. Most women are healed in 6 weeks. Mine took 8 months and physical therapy. I’d take pregnancy over recovery any day.

@tallsnail YES. I breastfed while on maternity leave. Pumped for the first time about a week before returning to work so I would know how & was NOT prepared for the emotional toll it took. Felt so unnatural and dehumanizing. I cried for hours. Only pumped for about 2 months and had to quit.

pumping breastmilk truly feels like a demoralization ritual to me ive now had to do it for both kids to help my supply come in due to ineffective latching in the early days. i'm again finding myself surprised it has become so common/normalized as a thing to do long term

@_samantha_joy I’ve been reading to my baby since birth. She’s almost 15 months now. We don’t just read what’s on the page. I point to things in the pictures, name what I see, count things on the pages. Books are by far her favorite toys. She “reads” by herself by pointing and babbling.

I'm open to being convinced I'm wrong, but I feel dubious about the value of 'baby books' and don't plan to buy/use them. And I'm someone who is so bullish on the value of reading/literature, I'll be using Montessori to start phonics at ~2.5yo. But 'baby books' seem like they fit in the category of "looks educational to adults, but not all that valuable from a child's perspective". At least for a child under ~12-18 months. If the goal is building vocabulary, it's far more effective (and easy) to let your baby engage with real objects in the world and provide the names that way. If the goal is the child regularly hearing rich language, it's far easier and more effective to just talk to your baby and narrate everything you're doing. You can also just read *real* books and poetry and get the added benefit of providing varied prosody. I see a lot of parents stressing out, like "my baby won't sit still while I read to him/her" or "my baby just wants to rip/turn the pages or throw the book" and idk, my response is just ... what are we even doing here? for whom? again, I'm open to arguments, but I highly doubt handling board books at 8 months old really makes that much of a difference in whether a child eventually loves reading, especially if you're going to invest heavily in them loving to read once they're a toddler.

@megha_lilly I hang up anything I can to cover up the holes and mismatched chipped paint. If I could I’d hang it on the ceiling too to cover up the missing ceiling tiles. Maybe it’s cluttered and ugly, but I promise it’s better than what’s underneath.

School classrooms are cluttered with the ugliest possible "info" posters on the walls. They distract children, they're an eyesore, and the ugliness does more harm than the info does good. Classrooms should have framed, high quality prints of real artwork instead for the walls. I get anxiety just looking at this environment. This is not a calm and good place for learning. Its a stress inducing mess.

people constantly say that babies don't know they are a separate person from their mother. this is an incredibly bizarre claim and it makes no sense to even talk about the mind of a baby in this way imo. my guess about why it feels true to a lot of moms is that the empathy circuits that mothers run in relation to their babies make the boundary between mother and child blurry *for the mom*. brain changes during pregnancy are all about social processing and empathy, and for me the result only seems to impact how I relate to my baby. I notice that when my baby has a dried booger, I feel discomfort and an urge to pick it on par with what I'd feel if I had an itchy booger in my own nose. when he looks cold, I feel uncomfortable in a way similar to coldness. if I can hear him crying, I get too agitated to do anything useful until it stops. when he laughs I often involuntarily start laughing. my baby is not modeling me the same way in reverse.

@caramelcolored I think most people also either don’t know or choose to ignore that this man had a severe brain injury and almost lost his life at 25 (which may or may not be related to his bipolar disorder). Maybe not an excuse, but an explanation. Yes, brain injuries can make a person hateful.

You don’t have to forgive Kanye west, or believe he has changed. But I do wish more people understood mental health disorders more. I’ve seen far too many people say shit like “well, bipolar disorder doesn’t make you do that.” YES IT DOES. Bipolar disorder makes you do shit you would never do if you didn’t have it. And it doesn’t excuse the behavior at all. You aren’t required to tolerate what someone with poor mental health does to you. But at least listen. Honestly I’ve always understood that Kanye was sick. Even in videos of him, he just seemed “off.” I hope he really heals.
FearBuck@FearedBuck

Ye issues an apology for his antisemitic comments “I regret and am deeply mortified by my actions in that state, and am committed to accountability, treatment, and meaningful change. It does not excuse what I did though… I am not a Nazi or an antisemite. I love Jewish people… To the black community - which held me down through all of the highs and lows and the darkest of times. The black community is, unquestionably, the foundation of who I am. I am so sorry to have let you down. I love us. In early 2025, I fell into a four-month long manic episode of psychotic, paranoid and impulsive behavior that destroyed my life. As the situation became increasingly unsustainable, there were times I didn’t want to be here anymore. Having bipolar disorder is notable state of constant mental illness. When you go into a manic episode, you are ill at that point. When you are not in an episode, you are completely ‘normal’. And that’s when the wreckage from the illness hits the hardest. Hitting rock bottom a few months ago, my wife encouraged me to finally get help. I have found comfort in Reddit forums of all places. Different people speak of being in manic or depressive episodes of a similar nature. I read their stories and realized that I was not alone. It’s not just me who ruins their entire life once a year despite taking meds every day and being told by the so-called best doctors in the world that I am not bipolar, but merely experiencing “symptoms of autism.” My words as a leader in my community have global impact and influence. In my mania, I lost complete sight of that. As I find my new baseline and new center through an effective regime of medication, therapy, exercise, and clean living, I have newfound, much-needed clarity. I am pouring my energy into positive, meaningful art: music, clothing, design, and other new ideas to help the world. I’m not asking for sympathy, or a free pass, though I aspire to earn your forgiveness. I write today simply to ask for your patience and understanding as I find my way home.” With love, Ye (via Walla Street Journal)
