#backrooms is frightening in its approach to all things terrifying about the metaphysical that worms inside the mind, held together by two very vulnerable and intense performances and features quite possibly the most anxiety inducing finale in a very long time

Kane Parsons’ #Backrooms is a TRIP. A brilliant, frightening vision. Beautifully claustrophobic, pulse-pounding & freaky AF. Superb world building, edge-of-your-seat suspense & earned scares. Renate Reinsve & Chiwetel Ejiofor are terrific. Danny Vermette’s production design, a ⭐️

Kane Parsons’ #Backrooms is wild stuff. A wholly unique and original horror film that freaks you out and creeps you out while luring you deeper into its eerie, liminal nightmare. The kind of movie that gets under your skin and stays there.
For a film full of empty rooms and long hallways, I love how captivating it is from start to finish. It never gives you all the answers, and that lingering mystery makes it even more unsettling. I left the film and immediately wanted to talk more, read more and watch more about it. Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve are fantastic anchors in something that is super odd and mysterious, but also very entertaining. Would definitely recommend.

– Mike DeAngelo (The Playlist)
– Andrew J. Salazar

BACKROOMS is a promising feature directorial debut for Kane Parsons as he takes what worked best in the web series (the uncanny terror of liminal space) and brings it to the big screen with confidence and a unique voice. This is a horror film that demands patience from its audience, as its foreboding atmosphere, camcorder POV filmmaking, and inventive production design slowly and quietly build tension before finally unleashing it. While the story occasionally loses some of the ambiguity that made the original concept so chilling, two strong performances from Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve help ground the film as it descends deeper into its psychological labyrinth of dread and insanity. It may not have fully lived up to the hype for me but there’s a lot of potential to expand upon what’s presented here, should Kane decide to revisit this seemingly never-ending world.
