They are billboards! That's how most real-time Gaussian Splatting works. The key is *how* they are generated. Each splat has a covariance matrix that describes its shape from various angles. At runtime, a compute shader projects that 3D covariance into 2D screenspace (given the current camera position/rotation) which gives an oriented 2D ellipse rendered as a billboard :)

@areyougonnabe Genuinely the best way creatives can be creatives. I re-created the entire house (and the RV from the movie) as a 3D model a while back from a ton of footage like the VICE and various instagram BTS stuff :)

@CarsonKompon I'm not sure how to say this nicely but you might be out of touch when it comes to the performance of your game. Do people in your office use computers that cost less than $1,000? I say this because it isn't a "bug" like your insisting but fundamentally how the game is.
