This #NOAASatelliteShowdown contender is entering its “moving on” era. ❄️➡️🌱 Team Erie Breakup! In a #NOAA21 satellite sequence observed from March 3 to 27, 2025, ice cover receded over Lake Erie as temperatures rose heading into early spring. Like to vote!

Wind chills overnight into Saturday morning will be anywhere from -5° to -20° in CNY, and as low as -30° to -40° for the North Country. Bundle up and don't forget to limit your pets' exposure to these extreme temperatures as well. Quick trips out and back in are a must.

Tuesday was the second snowiest day on record in Syracuse with 24.2 inches accumulating! 📏❄️ Records go back to August 1902. The snowiest day remains February 15, 1946 with 34 inches. Note which dates we surpassed—during the Blizzards of '93 and '66.

The stagnant weather over the NE much of September has led to a big drop in winds in Syracuse: 45% lower so far this month. The average currently is 4.5 mph, well below the average of 8.2 mph. For comparison sake, our windiest months (January/March) are just a shade under 11 mph.
