@irvinmunarrizco @CataPaul2 concept of a nation-state really formed in the 19th century; before that, states existed in very different forms. You’re familiar with the Cossack Hetmanate, right? Even Bohdan Khmelnytsky referred to the state he created as Ukrainian.

Ukraine as a state under that name emerged in 1917, and in 1918 the West Ukrainian People’s Republic appeared after the collapse of Austria-Hungary — and that part was never part of the Russian Empire. @AdrianP_doc And Moldava won't join the EU by 2030, tran.Shit.nistria prevents that from happening and even if that problem is solved it will still take decades before Moldava is ready.

If Romanians and Moldovans play it smart for the next few years, we could see reunification in the next decade. This would be a nightmare and strategic defeat for Russia. And that's why the Kremlin is investing billions in destabilizing our countries and pushing anti-EU traitors like Calin Georgescu and George Simion in our politics.

It's been 4 years since Russia's full scale invasion of Ukraine. 12 years since Russia stole Crimea. And European companies are still avoiding sanctions and providing Russia with the raw materials used to make the weapons that kill Europeans. Our leaders' weakness in closing these loopholes borders on criminal stupidity.

The regime was more meh towards the Hungarian minority than one might expect, but its religious policy was truly horrific.

I was very young when the Ceausescu's were turned into cheese graters but I know Romanians were very happy to see them get what they deserved. They were so happy that most of them didn't notice or did not care too much that the reigns of power and the economy were taken over by people who were instrumental to the regime's brutality and who were very loyal to the them for years before they jumped to the ship of "democracy". In fact, the 15 minute "trial" and execution was orchestrated by their former underlings. Hell, the "democratic" president after the revolution ended up being a Moscow educated communist true believer and the reformed intelligence services and police became mostly staffed with the same people who used to crack sculls and connect car batteries to people's genitals before the revolution. And for the first 15-20 years after the revolution they essentially robbed the country with impunity. And after 36 years, some still hold great power and influence and preventing them from taking us into oblivion again is a continuous and unequal fight. Killing your dictator feels great but it's a fraction of the work needed to build a nation. And I can't even imagine how you go about doing that when two foreign powers are bombing your country.
