@FuriousDShow This reminded me that I met his dad. He approached me during breakfast at a hotel to practice the Father of the Bride speech he was going to give later day/weekend. It was a great speech - hope it was a success when he gave it. We sat and chatted awhile over coffee. Nice guy.

Book 12 completion was disappointing. I thought I'd be safe returning to present publishing with Holt/Parker, but even though the concept is interesting it was a slog through an annoying, repetitive narrator. I'm going way back to the '30s next for a palate cleanse. #readbetterbooks

Book 10 completion was supposed to be a Fluff Break from The Black Company, but wasn't that fluffy. I enjoyed the adventure & trying to unravel the mystery. Still love sticking in the '80s. #readbetterbooks

@Grummz Lists are the only way I can make sure I see the accounts I want to see & try to beat the For You algorithm - Following doesn't really suffice. I have buckets for the different subjects I like to follow - I'd never see the majority of posts I enjoy without lists.

X lists should be deleted.
90% of lists are used to target conservatives and harass them and track them. They serve no other useful purpose.
There is not even an option to opt off lists, and there are so many that doing it one by one is impossible.

Followers do not see our content and vice versa. It's across the board. Small, medium, and big accounts. People are losing motivation and feeling very demoralized in posting. They can't grow their accounts. It feels very structured in what you can post and what you can't post. Not to mention, lists are a problem. Endless harassment from the left. K*ll lists are being implemented. Safety is a huge issue now. Mass reportings to take down conservative accounts. Last but not least, please fix the block button. People shouldn't be able to quote post me that I have blocked. They shouldn't be able to see me. Out of sight out of mind. The harassment is off the chain on X.

Book 9 completion diving straight into the next Black Company story - Shadows Linger. Another wild ride that went all sorts of directions I didn't predict. I love this sojourn back to '80s publishing. Quality. #readbetterbooks

I'm behind again. 2026 book 8 is The Black Company. Refreshingly free of unwanted filler explaining far too many details of the world when I'm perfectly capable of using my own brain to figure it out as the story unfolds. And what a wonderfully crazy ride. #readbetterbooks

I managed to squeeze out Book 7 right at the end of the month. Radio dramas, movies - but I'd never read a John le Carre. Not sure if this was the best to start with, but I enjoyed it. Sounds weird, but I liked the smooth use of verb tense. #readbetterbooks

we're up to the 6th book completion of the year! i enjoyed this second in the series, but the pace wasn't as consistent as in the first. there was a bit too much inner monologue in this one for my liking. that said, i'm looking forward to the next one. i may need to pull Kin off the bookshelf since i picked it up in Reykjavik and still haven't read it. #readbetterbooks

What am I up to? Five? For my fifth book completion we have the second in The Siege series. I love it when I think I know where a story's going & then suddenly I'm giggling in delight that the author has taken a completely unexpected route. Not many can pull that off successfully these days. Reading this also reminded me I need to get to A Song for Nero, so I better get that queued up. #readbetterbooks

@FuriousDShow When we moved into our house in '76 there was an avocado fridge - and this horrendous avocado & purple carpet. Who puts carpet in a kitchen?! At least you couldn't see the stain from the pitcher of grape Kool-Aid I spilled all over it.

This looks a lot like my family’s kitchen when we first moved in. The harvest gold fridge was as ugly as homemade sin, but is probably still running smoothly somewhere.

for my 4th book completion of the year i'm going to have a big ol' complain. why, suddenly, in the 21st century is everyone arching their eyebrows IN EVERY EXCHANGE that takes place? there's nothing worse (except for adding in hair tucking) - it makes me raise my fists to heaven screaming in fury. how does this make it through editing? this one isn't nearly as eyebrow terrible as some in the last 10 years, but it's a damn shame. the plot's okay (if predictable) with a familial twist leading to the second installment of the series, but i probably won't pick it up because i can't trust the frequency of eyebrow arching with which i'll be assailed. i'd go back to anne zouroudi for a greek fix. #readbetterbooks
