That crazy Appalachia cat! Firm believer in the Appalachian Home Region Effect. Against Appalachian status gatekeeping. Vermont is in Appalachia.

@Liamjsm Well, given the Dem collapse in most major cities in 2024, the Rose City will probably turn red soon. The Big Apple had one of the biggest shifts toward Republicans, and like apples, roses are often red but there are no naturally blue apples or roses.

@fawfulfan @eschensam Their State Legislative maps were extremely gerrymandered in favor of the GOP until the State Supreme Court imposed fair maps in 2024, and their Congressional map is still a GOP gerrymander.

@fawfulfan @eschensam Wisconsin also doesn't have a constitutional amendment mandating independent redistricting in the first place, like Virginia does.

Now, as far as this year's midterm goes? Yeah, I'd definitely say they're cooked.

@FrappuccinoSlim @DJBranham I'm retroactively already preemptively depressed Though maybe Cacciatore would have been able to get over the finish line even though Ciatarelli couldn't.

@samhuppert Nowadays people forget that Iowa had consistently been a swing state for at least 2 decades at that point. No doubt Obama's performance there was impressive, though.

@BrlyThnkng @lxeagle17 @geoffreyvs @DDHQ Dems' House performance was indeed impressive, especially considering almost every state was gerrymandered in favor of the GOP. However gaining 7 Governorships was mediocre compared to 2010, and Dems didn't flip many state legislative chambers at all.

One of the things making the Trump coalition notoriously prone to horrifyingly bad midterms: it consists of virtually everyone who doesn't care about politics. So it's not just a persuasion penalty they pay — the turnout one is worse too. (with @geoffreyvs + @ddhq podcast).

@DrewSav Well, if Virginia voters had just abided by the gentleman's agreement beltway Republicans and Democrats apparently agreed to, professional Republicans could have kept living in a rightfully red northern Virginia.

The thing about many professional Republicans like Patrick Ruffini would never be caught dead living alongside the MAGA faithful. All these GOP consultants live in Northern Virginia rather than live in a rural red state.

@CleDemocrat @UtdSesko01 @ZFlawles1s New Mexico is plurality Hispanic. I'm honestly surprised Democrats haven't collapsed more there so far considering how badly they've collapsed among Hispanics nationwide.

@DJBranham It was a closed Democratic primary though. Are Dem primary voters in red counties actually more conservative than those in blue counties?

Laughing my ass off at the people who claim leftists are the reason why Fetterman won the primary as if fetterman's best counties weren't in the reddest parts of the state.

The Democrats of Pennsylvania could have had Conor Lamb as their Senator but instead looked at a big doofy guy in a hoodie and decided they preferred a guy who looked and acted more like them than an educated attorney with military experience. This mess is all on you guys.

@mllichti @monkey_reg @jdcmedlock I agree AI mass unemployment in the next few years is likely. But you're wrong about each decade's unemployment shock always being worse than the last, for instance the 2000 tech bubble crash had lower unemployment than the 1991 recession.

@monkey_reg @jdcmedlock Yes. We always have 1 mass unemployment shock per decade, and they must have higher peaks than the previous one. 2000 tech bubble crash, 2009 great recession, 2020 COVID... means AI mass unemployment coming around 2030.

@klobalism @DJBranham Well yes, he's an independent who represents a state that even FDR couldn't win and that has only elected 2 Dem Senators in history, 1 of whom is so centrist he has also run as a Republican as recently as 2016.
