busy few days... For the wave nerds, check out the tide gage in Santa Barbara Harbor last Thurs afternoon during the first swell. 1+m crest-to-trough harbor sloshing at low tide. Similar wave height as the Hunga Tonga tsunami of 2022. Likely the... #cawx #waves #SantaBarbara

@tamarahking Interesting question about the engineering…Not that I am aware of . Part of the problem lies in forecasting the distance between source/slip and the coastline which incides on whether coastal uplift or subsidence occurs (and where) . In Chile it has varied between quakes

Reading this very informative field report (via google translate) and something I've never considered; coastal uplift during an earthquake can mitigate the impact of the resulting tsunami. Is that (or the opposite scenario, downthrow) ever engineered for?
