Our WCU Player of the Week presented by @localforddealer is Jace Butcher of @CatamountMGolf ! Butcher helped lead the Catamounts to a runner-up finish at the Southern Intercollegiate on Monday as he earned his first career collegiate medalist honors. Butcher was the only player in the 83-golfer field to card a two-round score under par on Monday, shooting 2-under par 142 (70-72), and guided the Catamounts to a runner-up finish won by the event host, No. 34 Georgia. All told, he paced the field in par-4 scoring at 4-under par (3.80) and was tied for the tournament lead with eight birdies in the two-round event. Butcher also helped lead WCU to a second-place finish at the Peoples Championship as he placed seventh individually in the event. Butcher finished with 16 birdies for the event. All told, Butcher ranked among the tournament leaders in par-5 scoring, shooting 8-under (4.33). Butcher and the Catamounts return to the links on Tuesday, March 31st for the Cowboy Classic hosted by Wyoming.

This week in #CatamountCounty opened today with @CatamountMGolf back on the links for 36 holes. Both @CatamountSB & @CatamountBSB open a four-game week at home on Wednesday before @SoConSports play opens this weekend. @CatamountTennis is home for a pair of matches including a chromatic rivalry on Thursday against Furman. @catamountxctf continues it's outdoor season in Charlotte.

Our WCU Player of the Week presented by @localforddealer is Maya McPherson from @CatamountSB ! McPherson put together an eye-popping weekend at the plate in the Catamount Classic, finishing 9-for-14 (.643) with a triple and a pair of homers. She also collected a team-best 10 RBIs over the four games while scoring five runs in a 3-win weekend of the Catamount Classic. In Sunday's finale, her fifth homer of the season—a grand slam—capped the eight-run fifth as WCU came back for an 8-2 win. In a high-scoring nightcap with Robert Morris, McPherson added two more hits, including her second career triple and her first home run of the weekend. McPherson has 13 multi-hit games on the season following her strong weekend, as she already has hits in 17 of 20 games for WCU, and she holds the top batting average in the league by 43 points at .486. McPherson and the Catamounts close out a seven-game homestand TODAY at 1 p.m. against Presbyterian.

Our WCU Player of the Week presented by @localforddealer is Cord Stansberry from @CatamountMBB ! Stansberry helped lead the Catamounts to their third-straight 2-0 week to close out the regular season on a six-game win streak and propel WCU to the five-seed in this week's SoCon tournament. He finished with an 18.5 points per game performance as WCU averaged 82.0 points per contest in back-to-back wins over Furman and Mercer. He began the week with his seventh 20+ point performance against Mercer as he poured in 21 points on 63.6% (7-of-11) shooting with a three and made all six of his free throws. He also added five rebounds and four assists. He finished off the regular season with 16 points, four rebounds and four assists as WCU picked up its first season sweep of Furman since 2008-09 season. Stansberry and the Catamounts begin their pursuit of a @SoConSports Championship on Saturday night at 8:30 p.m. against Mercer in the quarterfinals.

Our WCU Player of the Week presented by @localforddealer is Tyler Jones from @CatamountMGolf ! Jones followed up his individual title at the Compadres Collegiate with a runner-up finish at the Wexford Intercollegiate. He posted his best round of the event in the second round with a 5-under par 67 before posting a 2-under par 70 and 1-under 71 to finish in second for the event and the team placed third. He finished tied for fourth in the field with 39 total pars, closing the event with 11-straight pars on Tuesday. Jones additionally led WCU with 10 birdies and was one of just nine golfers to card an eagle. Jones and the Catamounts return to the links on Thursday, March 12 in the Peoples Golf Championship at Sea Palms Resort, hosted by Western Carolina.
