Leann Parker (@LeannBP_OSU), Ohio State University (@OhioState/@OhioStAthletics) Assistant AD, Communications, will receive her CSC 25-Year Award this June at the #CSCUnite26 convention in Las Vegas! “I am fortunate to have had a long career in athletics communications, from my start at James Madison through my time at Ohio State. So many people have had an impact on me - fellow SIDs and other athletics staff, media, coaches and student-athletes - and I have had the opportunity to experience so many incredible events, games and championships. Working in this profession as a mother is not always easy, but is worth it. Athletics communications allows us to utilize so many skills, and each day brings something new. Jalen describes how being a person of color in predominantly white spaces shaped his ability to navigate discomfort and make his voice respected, motivating his move from corporate PR to the college sports world. He highlights Buffalo State’s diverse culture, ways he signals representation through social media and writing, hopes to create a support group for athletes of color, values relationships with student-athletes, and advises listeners to trust their gut when making career changes.
